  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
Rondo's problem is probably confidence. I saw him hitting open shots (cause they leave him open) all season. I also saw him pass on a lot open shots and wait for picks.

Rajon, if you're reading this. If youre in range and your open, SHOOT IT.

Yeah, completely different players.

They are both undersized (though JJ extemely) players who rely on speed; their best offensive is attacking the rim, both hustle players.  Obviously due to JJ's size he's going to have more trouble rebound, defending, and passing.

I see JJ as a very poor man's Rondo.  But the main point is Rondo will never be dominant and elite (like many expect him to be) unless he can shoot.  All teams are going to start crowding him in the paint and he becomes a liability on the offensive end of the floor.

For those who watched most of the playoff games, LAL OKC MIA all had trouble guarding JJ because they had to respect his outside shot, and then he burned them going to the rim.
The also both have 10 fingers.

They are not worth comparing. Too different. JJ has always been a scorer (and nothing else). That is JJ's elite skill or NBA level skill.

True. True.

But I think this offseason, he will improve his jumper yet again.

Don't think at his size Barea is the offensive savant Curry is. He only shot 44% this season ... not bad, but not great either. Could the playoffs have been an aberration? Maybe so.

But if RR had the offensive skills of CP3 he would have been a max. guy and perhaps would not have signed in favor of testing the market akin to Perk.

I think if he had the offensive skills as CP3, the Celtics would have paid him the max money and we would have won the championship this year.  No way he would be testing the free agent market.

Rondo just needs Barea's fearlessness.  Barea looks extremely confident out on the court despite his obvious limitations.  It's really in Rondo's head.  He doesn't look to score or take it to the hoop because he doesn't want to go to the foul line.  I want Rondo to have the same killer instinct that Barea has.  If Barea was taller, he would no doubt take it to the rim and dunk it hard on someone.  That's his personality.  Rondo needs some of that quality in him.  I think Westbrook and CP3 have that quality too.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
the biggest problem for the Celtics that stems from Rondo's inability to shoot is an opposing teams ability to easily guard the pick n roll by sagging/doubling the screener.

This is how the Mavs crushed the Heat- double ball screens and pic and rolls with Dirk and Barea/Terry/Kidd taking turns at draining open looks and slipping screens to the rim.

I swear they would run a pick and roll between Barea and Nowitzki 3-4 times over until the heat would either over extend on Barea leaving Dirk with an easy layup or pull up jumper.
OR, they would sag towards Dirk too much or go beneath/below the screen and leave Barea or Kidd wide open.

If Rondo could develop a jump shot off the pick and roll that was 75% as good as Chris Paul's then we would have a realistic shot at winning another title because it would soooo much pressure off our other scorers.

Unfortunately the only way I see the pick and roll working this good for us is if we trade Rondo for Chris Paul or Deron Williams- then we would DESTROY everyone in our path.
Furthermore the only way we are winning another title with the big 3 is by acquiring Chris Paul or Deron Williams.
We need to swap Rondo (god i love him so much), for someone who can pass AND legitimately score 15-20 points a night from jump shots.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

You're so right about this.  If you watch the Celtics, Pierce, Ray and KG play the pick and roll game because all three can shoot. How many times have you seen Ray and Pierce play the 2 man game at the end of games so that Pierce can turn to pass to Ray for the buzzer beater? Pierce and KG do the same thing.  Defenders have to stay with Pierce because Pierce can shoot or take it to the hoop.  However, as Pierce gets older, he won't have the ability to dribble penetrate as much.  Imagine if Rondo could replace Pierce in the pick and roll offense.  The offense would be spread out more and it would flow better.  Right now, Rondo's defenders sag off him and/or help on the roller, thus jamming our offense..

It would be nice if Rondo was always in attack mode like Barea.

Rondo just needs to be an average shooter for his position and he would be the top PG in the league. Maybe one of these years
