I am surprised. I thought Pierce should have made at least the 3rd team.  And remember this is a regular season vote, play-off games not included.  I also was surprised Pau Gasol made second team, and Horford made the 3rd team. Seemed to be a lot of Western Conference bias, with 4 of the 5 on the 3rd team taken from that conference (the first two teams split down the middle in terms of conferences.) It is harder to defend my position given our early exit from the play-offs, but seems like our organization was worthy of one spot.

These would have my picks ...

First team - Derrick Rose, Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, Dirk Nowitzki, Dwight Howard

Second team - Chris Paul, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant, Kevin Garnett and Pau Gasol

Third team - Steve Nash, Manu Ginobili, Paul Pierce, Blake Griffin and LaMarcus Aldridge.

The third team could have gone in a lot of different ways. Not much separating the final couple of places. Especially the bigs. Amare and Z.Randolph versus B.Griffin was very tough. Not sure who I should have gone with there.

I would love to see teams one and two duke it out!

Did anyone else see that Kendrick Perkins got a vote(s) for an All-NBA team?

Seriously. He finished with 3 points in the voting.

I gotta have Westbrook in there somewhere. Either over Manu or Kobe.

Are you sure that wasn't DPOY? Either way, it's still ridiculous

Garnett is a homer pick on my part, but his defense was top-notch, and that should be rewarded.

Rajon Rondo actually finished 14th overall in the voting process (68 points) but the teams were short of forwards and centers so Al Horford (62 points) + Zach Randolph (67 points) were put into the teams instead of Rondo.

Paul Pierce was the next, I don't know what to call him, runner up, with 55 points. He finished 17th.

No, it was the All-NBA votes.

My guess is some writer in Oklahoma voted #1 Durant #2 Westbrook #3 Perk and two others ... and Perk got three points out of one ballot.

-------------------------------------------------

Here are the final tallys for the other players to receive a vote:

Quote
Other players receiving votes, with point totals (first team votes in parentheses): Rajon Rondo, Boston, 68; Paul Pierce, Boston, 55; Carmelo Anthony, Denver-New York, 53; Kevin Love, Minnesota, 48; Tim Duncan, San Antonio, 43; Blake Griffin, L.A. Clippers, 36; Tony Parker, San Antonio, 27; Kevin Garnett, Boston, 22; Deron Williams, Utah-New Jersey 19; Steve Nash, Phoenix, 17; Andrew Bogut, Milwaukee, 13; Monta Ellis, Golden State, 11; Nene, Denver, 11; Andrew Bynum, L.A. Lakers, 9; Kevin Martin, Houston, 7; Tyson Chandler, Dallas, 7; Joakim Noah, Chicago, 5; Marc Gasol, Memphis, 3; Al Jefferson, Utah, 3; Kendrick Perkins, Boston-Oklahoma City, 3; Andrea Bargnani, Toronto, 2; Chris Bosh, Miami, 2; Andre Iguodala, Philadelphia, 1; Emeka Okafor, New Orleans, 1; Eric Gordon, L.A. Clippers, 1; Gerald Wallace, Charlotte-Portland, 1; Jason Kidd, Dallas, 1; Luis Scola, Houston, 1; Luol Deng, Chicago, 1; Ray Allen, Boston, 1.

Andrea Bargnani wins the award as the worst player to receive an All-NBA vote.

I don't know, its kinda a tossup with Perk on account of him playing 1/4th of the season.

We definitely need to institute a Survivor like rule for voting. Every year we vote off the dumbest voter.

  Westbrook over CP3? Really?

Based upon how they played this year, yes.  Westbrook had a healthy lead in scoring (+6.9), and everything else was pretty close, including assists.

Paul is a better player, but Westbrook put up better numbers for a better team.

I would put Westbrook in the category of putting up better numbers but not helping the team as much. Not quite in the AI category, but trending slightly that way.

In general, though, I have a hard time getting too involved in anything that involves voting by sportswriters or fans. As you say, CP3 is the better player, but it's not a great list.

Having said that, it's great Rondo did so well in spite of having had that late season slump.
