  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
These guys are both at the end of their huge contracts next year.
Obviously Ray could go to someone like the Bulls and contend for a title for a good year or two. BUT...
Does anyone think they may possibly stay after their contracts are over and become role players? Even possibly off the bench if we managed to get our hands on some young studs at PF and SG? In the same vein as Shaq this year, except they are staying with the organisation they love and cherish.
Or would it be too much for their egos, or too little for the their bank accounts (it would be perfectly understandable if they didn't and took 6-7 million somewhere else).

They've made so much money and they would be desperate for another ring...

Imagine a team of something like:

Rondo/CP3
Pierce
Dwight Howard
Danny Granger (more likely if rondo was here because CP3 wouldn't leave us enough free cash)
Solid PF (suggestions?)
KG (off bench or starting)
Ray (off bench or starting)
JO off bench
Delonte off bench.

"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

If they feel good and really only want one more title.

But, it depends on if they could convince such a player to come to Boston.  There are very few of them out there.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
Assuming we get younger stars to carry the scoring load and Pierce, KG, and Ray are coming off the bench or playing a supporting role, yes probably.

I can't see KG's body holding up past next season.  I know he's hurting

There is a chance but we'll have to wait until after next season to get a proper read on it.

To see where their health is at, their desire to continue playing and their ability on the court.

I could see Ray Allen playing beyond next season more than I can see KG doing so.

  • TRANSFORMATION INTO CHAMPION COMPLETE!!!
If they're able to add those players you mentioned, which is an extreme longshot, I think that they might. It would make the C's pretty much a lock for a championship.

Even under the rosiest of predictions, we're not going to be able to sign two max-salary guys, not with both Pierce and Rondo on the books.  So, a scenario where we get Howard *and* Granger is probably out of the question.

That said, in an ideal world there would be room for one of them.  If the Celts could somehow trade for CP3 this off-season, I think it makes the prospect of a D12 / CP3 pair up fairly realistic.  Under those circumstances, I could see KG and Ray coming back in reduced roles.  Of course, in all likelihood Orlando trades Howard before he becomes a free agent, but one can dream.
