New offensive sets?

I know the past month has been hard to watch.  But I have kept thinking that the Celts offense has become predictable and scripted.

This caused me to stop in my tracks.  Is this perhaps because the celts have intended it to be?

I have always thought that the 08 team went into the playoffs as a juggernaut that had run the same offensive sets to success all year.  Then, all of a sudden in the playoffs, the Hawks and the Cavs really disrupted their offense.  Suddenly they had a much tougher time scoring, especially on the road.

By the pistons series, I noticed they had started to substanially change sets in the offense, running counters to get Ray open and Paul open.

In the 09 playoffs, they seemed to bring out new wrinkles on the offensive sets resulting in good offense again.

Last year, I again noticed "new" plays that the celts just hadn't been running during the season.  I know there is a bit of ebb and flow to plays used during the season.  I know that there are matchups that we try to exploit.  But I am just wondering if the celts purposefully don't run these new "old" sets.

Think about the last time you saw KG-PP screen roll (think the NY game last year the KG won).  What about 2-3 screen with PP and Ray?   We've used a ton of that double big man play, but few where the big rolls to the basket (think KG alley oops).  I have seen very few Ray setting up the counter screen to one side, and getting it on the other side with another pick.

I just wonder if we just haven't seen the full offense yet.  I don't have proof, but I am just wondering if anyone else noticed.  It is entirely possible that I am flat out wrong.  But for the Cs sake, I hope I am spot on.

My feeling is that this is wishful thinking, but I guess you never know.  Doc might have a few things up his sleeve.
Never forget the Champs of '08, or the gutsy warriors of '10.

I hope it's true, but you're right, this is more Popovich like than Rivers style.
