To be honest they don’t owe anything to you
They don’t go to sleep and think “Oh boy I let down the fans that root and watch me everyday. I better not let the people on the blogs and media down”

Don’t you think if The Celtics cared so much about the fans, they would’ve have busted their hump every single possession of the regular season? They don’t suit up for game for the sole reason to make fans happy. May be tough to swallow. Their needs come first, which is finding the best way to win a title at their pace and to not tire themselves out. To the Celtics (or any other NBA team), its just another game, Win or Loss. Each game doesn’t mean the sky is falling

I watch the Celtics and admire them more than any other team, but I go in with the notion that they are human beings and have a life. And they don’t act like robots who have infinite endurance, so their gonna have lulls in their game from time to time. That’s just my point of view

I'm not really sure where the point is here. Is the point that the Celtics don't care about the fans or that the Celtics don't care about the games?

Not every game should be treated as life or death. No one acts like a robot in their profession. Its the same way for anyone else's job, an office person wouldn't want to feel like every paper they file is a life or death situation. People have lulls because they are human and not because they purposely don't care and want to let down the people that support them.

They are not immortal (although the media would try to pretend they are)

So what you're saying is that if the Celtics don't play hard because they're tired or bored we as fans should understand that it is not about us?

Yeah, not about us in a sense that they are not trying to spite you. They just have off days. The Big 3 are legends, shouldn't they be given some slack?

I think the point the OP was trying to make is that these players understand what's going on better than we do. If we were playing our starters 44 minutes a game we would probably beat these crappy teams but they're only playing like 30 minutes per game. And just because we think that every game should be balls out they know thier own limitation better than we do and we should just trust that they know what they are doing.

These guys didnt just get handed jobs in the NBA, they have worked thier asses off every day of thier life to stay in great shape and stay productive in a competetive league.

So no, they dont owe it to us to risk injury so that we have bragging rights about how good our team is. Regardless of what any of us think we know about basketball the coaches, staff and players know more.

Ah, that's what I was thinking you were getting at. One game here or there is absolutely forgivable. But here is the problem I have:

The Celtics (aside from Rondo) have said all season that the #1 seed is the goal, that it is very important and they learned last year that they can't coast through the regular season again.

Yet, when they had the #1 seed, they started losing games to teams that were really 1 or 3, maybe even 3 tiers of talent below them, allowing the competition to catchup, and pass them.

If it was say just 1 or 2 games a month, than we could deal with that. Even if the Celtics dropped one to a team that was clearly not on their level one out of every 4 games, that's forgivable.

But, when the thing they'd fought so hard for during the season was slipping away, they never really showed any urgency.

So in the same way that we have to realize they're human beings, is it too much to expect them to show some stones and win some games when they matter, even during the regular season? Is it too much to expect them to overcome that mental and physical drain to take home the easier wins?

I'm not mad at the Celtics because I think they're intentionally trying to spite me, or us as fans. Well to be honest, I'm not even mad at the Celtics..but if what you're saying is true, and their recent play is really because they 'don't care anymore' until the playoffs, well I could understand why people might feel a little misled, because the games still count, and it was these same Celtics to a man who said home court matters.

Dont get me wrong, after MIN took the lead back last night I felt like the sky was falling, and I still feel like we should be winning these games. But I dont think they "owe" anything to me. Me buying a t-shirt occasionally or going to a game is hardly "paying someones salary" It's not like the fans aren't getting thier money's worth at the games. What about all the games we watch for free on TV? We're not paying for that..

This is why I always give long and hard thought to renewing my season tickets. I get sick and tired of being at games where they either don't care, don't try or aren't interested. It is completely unprofessional and disrepectful to those who pay the freight -- the fans.

Yeah, I'm not gonna lie it is kinda frustrating to see them lose to bad teams. But honestly, sometimes players need a reason to try hard. The one bright spot is they all stepped up their game when the elite teams played them and played with a sense of urgency

We're just not playing well period.  Ray and Paul are playing in the high 30-min and we still lose.  If you didn't see the passion in Pierce in the 4th quarter last night, then I don't know what you were watching.  There isn't a lack of effort; there is a lack of execution.

I really don't think the players are losing sleep because of the fans.  They want to win for themselves.  That's really the only common interest between the players and the fans; we both want W's and titles.

It's funny how we got the record we have despite battling injuries all year long.  I think it's finally caught up to us and people are immediately jumping ship.  If you were told how many games KG, Rondo, Shaq, JO, West would have missed before the season started, nobody would think we'd have the record we have today.

Well..I will say this, I am mentally preparing myself for a decent 5-6 or 8 game win streak, followed by a loss to an elite team (spurs), followed by some more wins. I anticipate us re-taking the #1 seed. Dunno why..just do.

So its not like I'm 'mad' at the C's, or even that frustrated with them, because I believe they'll turn it around.

EDIT: Of course, I firmly believe that the Boston Celtics do care about whether or not they disappoint fans, and that when they drop a game to a team that is nearly the polar opposite of them in terms of wins and losses, that it really eats at them, at least until the next tipoff.

Soooo true, same way I feel lol. I'm frustrated cause I know how good they are. Sometime I feel the Celtics don't know how talented and unstoppable they can be

Its march and they are worn out and none of these guys has ever been accused of being psychotic like MJ, Bird, or even Kobe to a certain degree.

MJ and Bird went out every night to destroy you no matter what the date was and it seems we expect everybody to be that way.

we've got four 30 somethings and they are worn out and the bench has yet to gel. We will be fine.
