I had this funny feeling watching the Bucks game after we got whistled for Defensive 3 Seconds-- "Been a while since we commited that foul" I thought.  Didn't we used to get lots of these called against us?"  It seems to me that this is something we have improved on lately and I wondered if it had to do with the Perk trade.  KG and Perk got a lot of these, over the years right?

This article indicates that we started out the year getting a lot:  http://espn.go.com/blog/boston/celtics/post/_/id/4678473/stat-check-defensive-3-seconds

I hope someone out there knows of stat trackers that could bear this out one way or the other.

Also I would be interested to know if people in the forum think this is even worth improving.  On the one hand, it's giving away easy points (which is why I felt impressed that it seems we haven't getting these calls lately.)

On the other hand, is it a sign that we aren't being aggressive clogging the lane?  Does our scheme depend on testing the limits of defensive 3 seconds?

thanks a lot

3 second violations are going to occur when guys try to protect the lane. If guys are oblivious to penetration or post threats, they aren't going to enter the lane. That will mean less violations, but possibly worse team defense.

A lot less moving screens.  Although I like that they gave one to Nenad the other night just to keep him in check.

That reduction in turnovers is great...my biggest knock on Perkins was his illegal screens and defensive 3-seconds.

Those are things he can avoid as opposed to being an offensively void player, which wasn't Perkins' fault.

I'm really with you on the moving picks.  so frustrating.

Do you think the 3 second violations were a product of good defense, or just an avoidable shortcoming of his game?
