What a collection of talent.  You know how you can look back at a team like the 96-97 Suns and go, "Wow... that team at one point or another included Sam Cassell, Kevin Johnson, Jason Kidd and Steve Nash... 4 franchise point guards at some point in their career"... Well this is like that, but crazier.   Sure a few of our players are washed up and a few haven't written their legacy yet, but we are going to look back with jaws dropped at the names on this squad.

PG - Rondo (2 time allstar... could go on to a hall-of-fame career. )
SG - Ray (10 time all-star)
SF - Pierce (9 time all-star)
PF - KG (14 time all-star)
C - Shaq (15 time all-star... somewhat washed up,)
---
SF - Jeff Green (I think he's a fringe all-star in the post-Big 3 era.  Anyone going to be shocked if he has a stretch of years averaging 20+ ?  He just spent the first 4 years of his career playing out of position, because Durant is an otherworldly future legend locking down the SF spot)
PF/C - Jermaine O'Neal - (6 time all-star) - Injuries have derailed his career, but he started 70 games for the Heat last year averaging 14, 7 and 1.4.  Might just be one of those names we look at and go "oh yeah he was on that roster too".  Interesting to note he's 32 years old... 2 years younger than KG and 7 years younger than Shaq.  With him I wouldn't be shocked to see him bounce back to a couple solid years ala Grant Hill/Antoino McDyse... also wouldn't be surprised to see him fade from existence like Chris Webber.
PF - Troy Murphy - 30 year old just spent the most part of the last 7 years being the best big man on indiana and Golden state.  Good solid starter quality player in his prime who averaged 15 and 10 last year.
PG/SG - Delonte West - Probably best suited as a backup, but in 08/09 he was the starter for a 66 win squad (and I felt the 2nd best player in the playoffs for them).  Could be a starter on a number of teams.
C - Nenad Krstic - Career starter for NJ and OKC.  Nothing special here, but he's a legitimate NBA player who had a career season in NJ averaging 16 and 7.  Last year he was the starting center for a 50 win playoff team.
PF - Glen Davis - Nice role player for us, but I could see him as a starter for a team some day.
PG - Carlos Arroyo - kinda a bum, but he did get some starter minutes by default on that depleted Miami roster.
PG - Avery Bradley - Scrub pg.  Maybe he has a career in him.  Not sure.  Could get some good minutes Europe or the D-League eventually.   Ya never know, though.

Point is... there's a lot of talent there.

Hopefully we win a title.  Otherwise years from now when Jeff Green is the star of the Celtics, kids in the future will look back on this roster on basketball-reference.com and go, "Wow... I totally forgot that Jeff Green once played a season with Shaquille O'Neal".  Lol

I love the talent on the roster, but truly when considering depth, I only count healthy bodies and/or those that the odds favor being healthy/available on any given night.

And we have some problems there.

Unless we're playing a scrimage against the nursing home all stars, I don't count Delonte, JO, or Shaq.

I think if the playoffs started today... all 3 of them would be playing.

Well... maybe not Jermaine.  I don't know what's up with his status.  With the other two I think we are just playing it safe.

This might very well be true, however just as JO played for Miami in the playoffs last year while hurt, it is not necessarily an advantage to have someone out there if they're not 100%.

Shaq might be an exception since his main advantage right now is being a massive human being, and he could stand there and not defend the pick and roll just as well with a bad foot/ankle/knee/whatever.

Delonte...I love Delonte's game, but have learned to not count on him.  Even if he starts a game, I am not overly confident he won't get hurt and miss the end.

I agree they are crazy deep, which begs the question -- are they too deep?  Is 'too deep' possible?

And a loosely related question:  Why does it seem that the Lakers were silent during this buyout/waive season?   We heard from every other major contender.  But seemed that the Lakers were not aggressive at all.  And they were not playing great just before the break.   Is their philosophy one of let's not rattle the boat with new bodies?

Crazy deep with injuries.

Exactly ... very deep, indeed, but unless they're healthy, it means very little. Let's hope the injuries/recoveries are timed as well as they were last year, (except Perk in Game 7, of course).
