the trade was a plus for both teams basically...

ainge needed a wing to guard the likes of lebron/deng/melo so pierce doesnt get tired out, as well as a healthy bench

and Oklahoma NEEDS a roleplayer big in order to compete with the other elite western conference teams like LA, mavs, Spurs

can anbody clarify what we got for the welsch pick from cle...was it Rondo...

HOW ACQUIRED: Draft rights acquired from Phoenix along with Brian Grant and cash considerations in exchange for a future first round pick on June 28, 2006.

Jiri Welsch
February 24, 2005: Traded by the Boston Celtics to the Cleveland Cavaliers for a 2007 1st round draft pick (Rudy Fernandez).

Rudy Fernandez:
June 28, 2006: Traded by the Boston Celtics (as a 2007 1st round draft pick) to the Phoenix Suns for Brian Grant and Rajon Rondo.

The pick that became Rondo was passed around a lot.  It originated as a Lakers pick, went to Boston, Atlanta, and Phoenix before the Rondo deal.

Ainge is already pretty notorious for calling up other GMs proposing lopsided deals.

In a league where Chris Wallace is a GM, shouldn't every GM be doing this?

he makes trades that seem benefit the team he is trading with more, but manages to spin them into bigger moves for the c's.  he is clearly playing chess.

Not every trade Danny has made has been a clear win for the Celtics, though.

* Antoine for Raef wasn't a great deal for us; it saddled us with a bad contract for several years, which greatly limited our flexibility.  Indeed, we had to surrender a lottery pick to shed Raef's salary.

* The Ratliff/Raef deal.  Sure, this was the trade that set us up to get KG, but that doesn't mean that Portland regrets it.  We traded a pick that could have been Brandon Roy or Rudy Gay for basically cash / cap flexibility.  That worked out for us, but it wasn't a coup (and might not have been necessary but for the poor Antoine trade).

* The second Antoine trade.  We gave up a #1 pick for a couple of playoff games.  Danny had no intention of signing Antoine, but gave up a draft pick anyway.  This pick turned out to be Rajon Rondo.  Luckily, we were able to buy the pick back, but had to surrender yet another 1st rounder to do so.  Again, not great value.

* The Wally / Ricky deal.  Is it possible for both sides to lose in a trade?  This one didn't help either team; garbage in, garbage out.

* Ray for Green.  This one worked out great for us, uniformly.  However, does OKC regret it?  I don't think so.  They shed Ray's contract, and picked up a lottery pick.  With the cap space they opened up, they ultimately were able to add three 1st rounders.  A good move for both teams.

* KG for Big Al.  Again, this was a steal for us, but Danny didn't pull the wool over anybody's eyes.  Minnesota got a young 20/10 guy and cap space, along with some other young prospects and picks.  They unfortunately ended up squandering every bit of what we gave them, but as far as pre-Carmelo superstar deals went, it was pretty fair value.

So, again, I don't think there's any reason for other GMs to stop dealing with us.  Danny has made some great deals, but hasn't outright snookered a lot of other teams (the Jiri trade excepted.)

BTW supposedly Chris Wallace is so scared of being killed after the Pau deal that he's a nightmare to complete a trade with.

Constantly waffling or trying to change up the framework of deals that have already been partially negotiated.

I know I wouldn't be afraid to deal with Ainge. His roster is stacked. Deep. Outside of the few final roster spots that don't get much court time, who wouldn't you want to add to your team ? They all have talent and can play. With 4 all stars on the roster, and now a 24 yr old talent whose only gonna get better, why wouldn't you take a peek at what he wants ?

I mean, doesnt this just further prove the point of DA being a good GM?

He seems to be able to read his own players incredibly well and also evaluate talent on other teams to come out successful. That's what I want out of a GM.

He's definitely a good GM.  Not as infallible as some think, but definitely near the top of the league.
