I saw this last night and just knew it would be a thread today.

It was a pre-game speech in the hall just before running out into the arena and some FSN camera guy was lurking around the team huddle as they bounced around and Ray gave this little speech to fire them up.

Big whoop!   ::)

I love what he said. if you look at most of our losses, they came against bad teams, maybe this attitude will change that. I don't like it when the team drops games because of lack of effort

Couldn't disagree more.  This attitude is WHY they lose to bad teams.  You need to respect every opponent and play hard for 48 minutes, or until it's wrapped up.

Really? Because this attitude won them the game by 22 it seems.

And does this come anywhere close to what KG actually says to an opponent's face during games?

  Oh, hey! KG was obviously misquoted. Which game are we talking about?

I guess I'm getting sucked in this discussion- This isn't a big deal because it was Ray who said it. Every NBA player is cocky in their own right but he's right, they don't belong on the same court as us. God forbid he's giving a pep talk to a team that probably wasn't too into the game in the first place. NO BIG DEAL.

I don't care at all about quotes like this.  Larry Bird and Bill Russell said things like this all the time, they just had less media following them.

The GSW tv commentators made a jokingly reference to it, it was during the huddle before the game. Saying this kind of stuff in those moments is pretty par for the course for sportsmen and it's always been. Not only sportsmen, but in lots of other fields. Fairly common motivational tool. It's not even trash talking.

This has nothing to to with a Celtics attitude or anything. Every other team in the NBA and out of it says similar things. Just a way of players getting pumped up for the game (or troops to a battle, or an executive to a business round, etc).

It's pretty bizarre that nowadays people can have problems with this kind of thing.
