I am sure Danny will make a pitch.

The only way I think Dwight comes to Boston is if we have the right players in place to win it all and enough money for him to feel 'secure'. That would include all of our current starters (assuming they are reasonably healthy still) minus Perk and some decent young stuff to grow with.

Hard to see Orlando taking any combination of stuff we have to offer in a trade unless we include Rondo, which would likely be a deal breaker for Dwight Howards camp because of the talent drop. We dont have any high enough draft picks to entice them with either, number 25-30 picks wont have much weight in this type of trade.

I think it's gotta be as a FA or not at all.

Someone on this thread or another said we have close to 40 mil in cap space next year

Correct me if I'm wrong but are we able to attract two max contracts to Boston while keeping Garnett for cheaper and the bench back?

If we do get Dwight, Perk is gone for sure

so at the moment we will definitely still have Shaq, and Nate?

Dont know where u read this or if you were thinking of off season after next but we only have about 11 mil coming off the books between Perk, Baby, Daniels, West, and Wafer.

IMO the magic really have to fall off the contender wagon if theres going to be any chance of dwight leaving orlando.  I cant see him pulling a Lebron.

In the 2012-13 season, Ray Allen will be 37, KG 36, and Pierce 35. I don't think all 3 will still be playing, at least not with the celtics, and definately not at the same level they are at right now (although Ray is a freak of nature who doesn't seem to age). So I find it unrealistic to project a lineup of Rondo, Ray, Pierce, KG, and Dwight... However I must say, it is very fun to think about. I could see a lineup of:

Rondo
average - slightly above average SG
Pierce
random PF
Dwight

I know, a lot of question marks. I could be wrong, but I thought KG and Ray are off the books after next season. Will they retire? Will the sign one more extension with Boston? Or finish their careers elsewhere?

Of course, but the chances of him coming here are next to none. I get the impression that Dwight is more worried about his image and likely his paycheck than about a championship. I don't see him taking less money to chase a title unless it is at a premier location like an LA or NY where he will make it up in endorsements. Orlando is likely his home unless he jumps for one of these major markets. He's from Atlanta so Florida's proximity helps as well.

Go after him, but have a solid backup plan when it doesn't happen.

yes, we try to get Dwight. Best C in the league right now and it's not close. having Rondo defend the perimeter and Dwight defending the middle would be awesome. regardless of the other players, i say we get dwight and then worry about the other parts (like Perk or BBD) later.
