Delonte back from his injury before the end of December?

Seems like a longshot but the simple fact that it's a possibility is really good news since it means he probably will come back around January instead of February/March like we feared it would be when he broke his wrist.

BOSTON — One of the many reasons the Boston Celtics love Delonte West is because he's quicker than you might expect.

Apparently that's true when it comes to injuries as well.

While the Celtics have given no specific timetable for West's return from a broken right (non-shooting) wrist injury, the Celtics guard tells CSNNE.com that his return to action will be ahead of schedule.

"Even though we're (six) days out of surgery, I'm going to be back a lot quicker than we thought," West told CSNNE.com.

When he initially suffered the injury on Nov. 24 against the New Jersey Nets, Celtics coach Doc Rivers feared West would be out for the rest of the regular season.

Following surgery on Nov. 30, the outlook for his return has picked up considerably.

West said the wrist is healing up so well, there won't be any need for it to be placed in a hard cast.

"Just stimulate it with treatments, and I'll be back to working out within the next two weeks," said West, who added that he'll have it in a soft cast when he resumes working out.

While it certainly remains a longshot, it's not totally out of the question that the 6-foot-3 guard could return the court before the end of this month.

For West, returning to action can't happen soon enough.

He opened the season on the inactive list while serving a 10-game suspension after pleading guilty to weapons charges this past summer.

West's first game of the season was Nov. 17 against Washington.

He came off the bench and scored 12 points to go with five rebounds and four assists as the C's easily defeated the Wizards, 114-83.

West has appeared in five games this season, averaging 6.8 points in 17.6 minutes per game.

He credits Celtics physician Dr. Brian McKeon and his staff for a successful surgery that has put him on the path to a speedy recovery.

"They did a great job with the surgery," West said. "All I can do is be happy with those results.

That would be excellent news ... this is a kind of injury that athletes respond very well to, so it wouldn't surprise me, especially knowing his attitude. Thanks, Drucci! (TP)

Delontes a warrior, but for his sake and overall the team hopefully he gives it more time. No need to rush him back and have him reaggravate it again. We should be fine. That said of course this is good news. It is nice hearing this and that he is in good spirit.

After seeing Delonte's piece on "The Assosciation" this is the kind of positive news that makes me very happy!

Even if he cannot get back this month, January is looking very reasonable.

Bi-polar disorder. Excessive lows...depression...to be sure, but also excessive highs where all is right with the world and everything will be just fine...even when it isn't and won't. 

I hope for the best with Delonte, but him saying he is recovering so very quickly, and that he will be back in 2 weeks sounds more like an excessive high than a realistic assessment to me.  If I hear reports of Danny or Doc saying that, okay, but from Delonte...I'll take a grain of salt.

If the orthopedic surgeons did not put a hard cast on the injury, this is probably a case of Delonte being optimistic for a reason and that this has absolutely nothing to do with Delonte's mental disorder as, my guess is, he is under medication and wouldn't be prone to his high highs and low lows.

My friend, Bahku, could probably explain this better than I could, but my understanding is there are a ton of different ways to break a wrist with possibly the worst being breaking the very ends of the radius and ulna bones. Depending on the bone he broke, a four to six week recovery time after surgery, especially to a professional athlete, is very possible.

Won't be December. It should be some time in January. Not that any injury is favorable, but this is in that he should be able to do plenty of cardio, and stay in shape.
