  • You say when......
I still look at it as a TA vs MD.....that is who it seems management thought we could keep instead...If that is the case, we got screwed. MD is very average. TA's D was outstanding..MD does nothing...great, TA was on and off on offense, but D, he was not only great, he took the assignments that otherwise we would have had to make Ray or PP do....his value will be more clear when our guys get constant tired legs, as they will by later in January, then the nagging injuries will pile up, and maybe some bad ones.

West might help, but MD or Wafer do not. For the small price TA wanted, one more year, same money, instead of MD or Wafer...easy decision, keep TA.

As for overpaying a player, well, lets start with SCAL, paid him for nothing = 5 yrs. TA's help was evident, but non players forget how much help a defender is, some here only remember the scorers (you don't like rebounders either)

BBD isn't much of a rebounder..if he was, he would get 1/2 of those shots that PP, KG, and Ray miss. They are great shooters...great shooters leave soft rebounds. Every time KG missed that one from the corner, you knew it was going long...a rebounder would know. It takes extra hustle and energy to get those, also desire....they call bbbd the energy here....energy in a geriatric unit maybe. (The guy who gets the remote..?)

BBD's shot has improved, but he still isn't a hustler or a rebounder.

I think you're undervaluing Marquis, which I can understand after the second half of last season. 'Quis has a higher ceiling than TA in my opinion. TA was a really clutch defender, and had wildly inconsistent offense. He also made really dumb mistakes. Quis is a good defender and a better sub for Pierce, and if he can stay on the floor this year, I think he will end up contributing more on both ends of the floor than TA ever did.

i appreciate your point of view, but just in last nights game was the perfect mirror images, TA turned it over, then MD got the ball and turned it over..then TA got ray to foul him. TA DID all this great D, which many others undervalue (of course not Miami, cleve, orl, mil) last night he was slashing, dunking, stealing....md did..? What. He is the teams new scal...everyone is making up things they think they saw or might happen...if things are just right. He hasn't really done much on D, and is average on O, with many missed passes, that go right through his hands...where are all the guys calling TA "cement hands" Now...same results..

When you like a guy...well fine. md has scored some, and defended some...but nothing like...WOW...TA did a lot of WOW plays...so, until he DOES them.....he hasn't done anything....sure he COULD...that is why i am on him..WHAT is he waiting for....his time is now. TA vs MD..TA is the better player all around....our only hope is now West to fill the spot.

You're forgetting about Marquis's good games, after the first and only good Tony Allen game of the year.

Take a look at their numbers, Daniels is having a much better year than Tony. You can say Tony's a better defender, I can buy that. But Daniels isn't a slouch either.

numbers can be misleading...a guy is more likely to be in on a blwoout by the celts and up his numbers than in memphis...TA's D is better so far....MD...has improved in shooting, and some decent layups....but i hate ask..CAN this guy slam it home...dunk..? TA first and only good game, how much do you see of him..this is the only time this year i saw him....i see md all the time. i think md could do a lot better....he seems to be a very ladeedah type...as in..."this is good enough"  "don't want to muss my hair or a nail"  ever see him "in it"  in a scrum, getting tough, hard rebound?  I know, i ask too much..i do not disagree with you here at all...i just want more out of this guy. for the $$$....he has the body....how about a slash or two, a dunk....a put back...i bet this is why Bird dumped him....he couldn't stand a ladeedah attitude....

Even though he's the one who left, I'd expect TA to get up to play Boston the same way House has when the Celts have taken on Miami.  Don't focus on that one game and ignore the previous 4 Memphis losses where Tony averaged just over 4 points and 10 minutes a game.  The only other time this season when TA played as many minutes as he did against Boston was in a blowout win over the T-pups.

This team has not missed Tony Allen for one second this year. It has laready beaten the almighty Heat and Lebron twice, without Tony Allen. Good luck in Memphis, Tony. Hope you get more playing time after your solid performance last night against the Celtics.

A slash or two, putback?! That's all the guy has been doing this year. That's where he gets his points. He goes to the rim. That slow smooth attitude you are ripping is how he is so successful going at the basket. He never gets in a hurry, does a great job reacting to what the defense is doing, and scores easily. Add to that fact that the guy does a great job playing defense with his feet, and you have a guy who gives us much more than TA did. He was frustrating Lebron every moment he was in there getting in front of him and making him dish it out. Marquis is playing GREAT basketball and just because the guy isn't fighting or getting T'd up for being out of control doesn't mean he isn't playing well. Keep it up Marquis… Tony who?!

Tony Allen had his chances sticking with the Celts. He was a hard worker just didn't work out. His next goofy play is just around the corner. Time to move on.
