And even if Damp chooses MIA, it helps them, but he's not enough to keep us or ORL from beating them.

I think Miami will beat Orlando.  If Miami adds Dampier, I think it becomes almost a definite, but even without him, the Heat can disrupt the players around Howard enough to beat them, even if Howard goes for 35 per night.

I think Howard should be one of the Heats major concerns. D.Howard putting up 35 or so a night is a very real possibility for them and it could be devastating. If Dwight goes for 30 a night I'm sure he's taking a couple big guys out with foul trouble. Guarding Howard in a play-off series is a nightmare that I'm sure Big Z does not want to relive and one Bosh wants no part of. The Heat aren't well suited to stop Howard right now.

Dampier isn't a stiff or a bum.  He's an older (much older), better rebounding version of Perk.  He could help any contender right now, which is why so many teams are after him.

how can you compare that guy to perk?  perk is the best defensive center in the league!  yeah dampier could help any team I agree, but come on mannn!!!!

I think Perk's defense is probably a little overrated; he's not the best defensive center (that's Dwight Howard, and it's not close).  Dampier's defense isn't as good as Perk's, but they're the same type of player.

Fast forward 9 years into the future, and Perk's defense will probably look a lot like Dampier's does now:  a little bet less mobility and athleticism, but still the same strong body, mean streak, and defensive instincts.

I can still see Atl finally opening up their wallets a little to sign him so they can finally have a starting C to move Horford to PF.

I think as we saw last year in our Orlando series, when the Magic rely too much upon Howard for their offense, they struggle.  The Magic are at their best when Howard is around 18 - 20 points per game, and other guys are contributing.  When Howard has to be the focal point, things just don't work as efficiently for them.

Howard scored 28+ against us three times in last year's playoffs.  His team's record?  1-2.

Really?  Maybe you know better than I do but the only Center it seems like the C's regularly struggle with is Bogut... but regarding Dampier I agree he'd be a great backup, but to compare what he brings to a game (or ever brought in his career) to what Perk brings it doesn't even seem close.. i guess we will have a better idea this season.

Among starting centers, I'd rate Howard, Bogut, Duncan, and Noah as being better than Perk defensively, and there are a few other guys who are at about the same level, although I'd probably take Perk.  Perk's defense is very good, I just don't put him at the top.
