While we're all talkign about our new bigs ( the O'neal twins ) we have them mostly because of the massive void Perkins leaves with his injury.

It emphasizes what a critical role Perkins plays for this team. He basically takes on the biggest, baddest enforcer of the other team every single night, for 82 regular season games and the roughly 24 games we played in the playoffs.

That's 106 games sqaring off against either best offensive big or the toughest enforcer on the opposing team every time he walks onto the floor.

Heres's last year's playoff run:

Miami, Five games, Jermaine O'neal
Bottom line, Jermaine and Perk have always been like two matterhorn rams going at each other. Without Perk in there Jermaine beats up on our other bigs a bit.

Cleveland, six games, Shaquille O'Neal
Enough said

Orlando, Dwight Howard, 6 games
Enough also said

Lakers, Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.um and Gasol
6 games, well done.

Just think about the amount of energy you have to expend to deal with that crop of bigs over 24 games at playoff intensity.

Thanks Perkins, get better soon.

PS: I bet Perkins is actually quite happy to know both jermain and Shaq are on his side now. That eliminates two of the  biggest bangers he has to face in the league.

Again, thanks Perk, get better soon!

It really might be a blessing in disguise. Look at our frontline: Perkins, Shaq, Jermaine, KG, Big Baby. Not one of those is a push over. I welcome anyone in the league to enter that green paint in the playoffs. Enter at your own risk.
The NBA..where "this whole sport is a business and the referees decide games and David Stern is a snake and is only in this for the money" happens.

TP to Scoobs!

Stats-wise - Shaq, Jermaine, and Perk did the best overall against Dwight and LA's frontline, and we now have all three on our team.

The most important thing I think is that with the type of injury that Perk has, he will now be able to ease himself back into the lineup, rather than feeling rushed.

I think that was part of KG's problem last season - the man has a hard time shutting it down when needed, and if KG did in fact take off more games last season to heal himself, we may not have cracked 40 wins.

Well, thankfully - I think we now have a large enough cushion of Bigs to allow Perk to heal properly.

Get well, Perk!

a healthy perk in game 7 probably gets us a title.  No amount of washed up big men will make up for that loss.

Perkins never gets the love he deserves. In the Finals, the 9 other starters would be discussed by the media, but never mean-muggin Perks. Then he gets injured, the Celtics lose game 7 in the 2nd half, and the rest is history. We're only left to wonder what difference he would've made down that final stretch

Yep, thats' why I hope Perk stays a Celtic for life.

Name another big man not named Dwight Howard that could go one on one in the post consecultively against:

Jermaine O'neal
Shaquille O'Neal
Dwight Howard
Bynum / Gasol

and come out strong defensively.

No one else really comes to mind quickly for me.

Which is why I think Perkins is so underrated.

He loves doing the stuff you can't pay guys to do...

I do agree with the overall premise but, the counter point is w/o Perkins but, with another big body we would have won it as well.

Which is really indicative of how overrated LA and Kobe Bryant are by I digress.

Anyway TP for Perk love he deserves and I hope he comes back ready for the playoffs.

Great post and great point!

Kudos to Perk for all his great work on defense, he truly is the anchor of our defense. I really hope he gets well soon and comes back close to 100% after the All-Star break. I also hope he will get a good contract next summer, hopefully with us of course, but he deserves it. The fact that he is always overlooked and never complains but embraces his role is just another great quality of Perk.

Although, I disagree with your thought that Perk is happy that he doesn't have to play against Shaq and J.O anymore now that they are on the same team, because I think Perk really enjoys competition like that, and shutting down big name centers with his defense.

Yeah it would have been nice to have Shaq and Jermaine on the team during game 7 instead of some bums like Glen Davis and Scal.  But at this point our window is likely closed... doesn't really matter.   Heat are winning 75 games this year.

I think Perk will play a role in winning #18.

Good point Drucci, he probably does like those match ups, you're right.

Re Miami or the Lakers, if we get a decent somewhat defensive back up small forward for Pierce and sign either Rudy or DWest behind Ray, we will crush both Miami and the Lakers as long as we stay healthy.

I have not one reservation about that. Bosh will be a pinball and Pierce, Ray, Rudy or DWest and either Noicioni or Posey will give LeBron and Wade all they want...

Maimi lacks a few very important thing; a good point and a good center. They have ok players at those positions but we have a great point and a few pretty good rotation guys at center, especially if Perk can come back by February or March.

Great OP, TP. Also, TP to the dude who described him as "mean muggin' Perkins." That's epic win.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

With Perk, Shaq and Davis I would not want to be on their bad side in a dark alley.  We'd definitely beat any team in a brawl straight up.  Jermaine and KG are not even mentioned above.

Yeah I remember you posting similar things last year about the C's window...  You are always on point with your predictions.  You really called the BBD situation.  Way before anyone else like Hubie Brown, SVG, JVG.. all sorts of guys thought he had talent.  I'm glad you stuck to your guns.  It gives so much credence to the rest of your posts.
