1st. Delonte got traded.

2nd. Cavs dont do this.

3rd. Why does everyone put so much trade value in Lafayette and Gaffney? Laf played in what, 2 NBA games just so we could save a million dollars on Robinson...And Gaffney hasnt even touched an NBA floor.

Sorry for not being clearer on previous post.

I'm looking for realistic ideas on how to get Shaq & Josh Howard. Not necessarily saying the other ideas in this post (so far) have to be used.

Im with you on liking the idea of bringing both Shaq and Howard. Just to clarify further I had replied to the OP before I had seen your post looking for new ideas. Haha.

1. The thread was made prior to West being dealt.

2. Which part? They traded West and they're probably going to lose Shaq without compensation.

3. Lafayette and Gaffney have minimal value as players, but their non-guaranteed contracts have some value. Including them in a deal with Sheed allows us to take more money back in contracts. The team that trades for them could subsequently waive them without penalty.

As I said the Cavs were going to get value for West, which they did, not a second round pick.  Original trade was totally unrealistic.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

You didn't say that. You said West was their starting 2 and I disagreed. In fact, I stated the following:

Quote
I expect the Cavs are exploring all angles in order to trade his deal, much like the C's are doing with Sheed, but rest assured that West will get dealt or waived and NOT be on the Cavs roster next season.

Regardless, it's debatable if financial flexibility and a second pick isn't more valuable than being tied to paying Sessions 12M for the next 3 seasons.

And basically that's how Minnesota felt. Since West and now Telfair too will probably be waived. So if they do waive them the trade looks like this...

Cleveland Receives:

Sessions
Hollins
2013 2nd rd pick

Minnesota receives:

???

2. They weren't getting compensation for losing Shaq under the proposed trade. They were trading away two players they didn't want, who have only $500,000 guaranteed on Cleveland's books next year, for one guy who will either cost a buyout likely to be substantially more than $500,000 that will go on their books, or will retire and leave $3+ mil on Cleveland's books. Not a deal that makes any sense for Cleveland.

3. I agree - I don't think anybody is pretending Lafayette or Gaffney has value on the court - their only value is that the Celtics can put those guys in a trade and allow the team acquiring those players to trade away an additional $2 million in salary and then cut these two without taking any cap or real-dollar hit.
Go Celtics.

I have a hard enough time believing we can come up with enough for just Shaq or just Josh Howard.  I can't imagine these two teams basically give us two established players for D-League quality players and 2nd round picks.  And Sheed's deal doesn't do anything for either team, as neither Shaq nor Howard is under contract.
