Yo what up again.

This past season the Houston Rockets acquired Kevin Martin for disgruntled swingman Tracy Mcgrady, with a few other players involved going to the Kings

We as Basketball fans all know about Kevin Martin, a prolific Scorer and a hard nose Defender, I just wanted to throw it out there to see if any other Celtic Fans would consider the 27 year old Shooting Guard as Ray Allen's replacement in a few years time

Sure K-Mart has had Injury problems over the years, but when he plays man he is effective, averaging 20ppg for his Career.

With Ray Allen being 35 and heading for the door, the 27 year old Martin would more be more than a suitable replacement

Drop your comments about Ray + Kevin below, and would you like to see K-Mart in the Green + White Jersey?

Martin, a hard nosed defender?  Was that tongue in cheek?

The problem with all this "replacement" talk is that either the player has to want to come here (i.e. we have the most cap space free that we are willing to offer) or the team has to want to trade our targeted player (in which case we would have to have something to offer in return). So it's really hard to target a future replacement with any realistic accuracy, unless we are just musing our fantasy desires...which is also fun, of course.

So yes, Kevin Martin would be an awesome Ray replacement, but he's under contract for a while, so how do we get him? Same with Anthony Randolph for the "KG replacement thread." How? Randolph will be a restricted FA. So his team will have the right to match. So by that point he will either be worth big money, and his team will match, or he will not be worth big money, so the C's will have to overpay to take him away...and that never really works out well.

So it's really hard to target a realistic replacement for "Celtics Player X" without being able to predict future drafts, the next CBA, player disgruntlement, other teams' desires to rebuild, etc.

But, Dwight Howerd (FA 2012), Antony Randolph, and Keving Martin would be great replacements for Perk, KG, and Ray

Rondo/Kevin Martin/Pierce/AR/Dwight in 2012-2013 baby!

I like Kevin Martin the person, but not as a player. He was loyal to Sactown and played his best, but he's a rich man's Mike Miller - Can shoot lights out, but can't guard a 3 legged chair.

Long term replacements for Ray IMO..

-Morrow - stuck in NJ for a few years
-CJ Miles - I like his game(show some lefty love)
-Joe Johnson - Older, but still in his prime
-Jason Richardson - Same as JJ, but would look great catchin lobs
-Durant - one day...one day...probably not. Seems like the next Reggie Miller: level headed and loyal. Retires a Thundercat
Can't stop, Rondo!

Depending on what happens, Eric Gordon could fit the mold. Does LAC want to ditch Kaman and include Gordon? All we know about Sterling is that he LOVES having future picks (apparently he will never trade them because a. they cost $0 and keep his poor fans excited; and b. it means 4 years at least of cost-controlled players...apparently the stat I heard is that Sterling has "never" traded a future first rounder; but I think he did trade a current first rounder for Brand) and that he hates signing big extensions.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
O.J. Mayo.

The Grizzlies aren't going to want to pay him when his extension comes up.

Maybe sometime down the road we could snag him.

You beat me too it.   Eric Gordon not only has Martin's offensive potential at 20 PPG but also seems to want to play some D.   Plus he may come cheaper than Martin.
