I wish Danny would bite the bullet and structure a good contract offer for Josh Howard. I know he is intent on not giving guys more than 2 years, but for a guy with this talent level, who should have at least 4 good years left, he should make an exception.  What is the max he could offer him, using Sheed's contract in the exchange, and throwing in a draft pick to sweeten it for the Wiz? Get it done, Danny. There is no one left out there, and this guy would be great off the bench at first, then as a starter when Ray is retired, or Paul slows down.  He can get out on the break with Rondo all night long. We can get him at a decent, broken knee price today. Get it done, Danny!!

I don't know if this is within Danny's power.  First, Chicago can possibly offer more money, as well as a potential starting position (it would be much easier to pass Brewer than Ray or Pierce on the depth chart).

Anything above the Vet. Min. has to be structured into a S/T.

and those always take a while to negotiate. Esspecially if one of the teams is over the cap.

From I gather, the Bulls cannot offer Josh Howard as a free agent more than Boston can in a sign-n-trade.  They used up to much of their remaining cap room siging Brewer.

Josh Howard, you need to sign a one year deal here. You know you want to.

I mean, it isnt that easy dude. We can't just say, lets sign Josh Howard and offer him more money than other teams. Or we can't simply "bite the bullet and make him a good contract offer."

We can do two things

1) Sign Josh Howard to a vet minimum. Which he wont take, Im guessing he is looking for around MLE money. And when we can only offer him 1 mil and change a year (dont know the exact vet min number) I doubt he would accept.

2) Work a S+T. This gets even trickier. Based on my knowledge(please correct me if I am wrong). Since the Wiz renounced Howards rights, a sign and trade would have to work with the Wiz signing Howard, then waiting the 90 days or however many to trade him to us once he cleared.

Howard is my number one choice at the moment. However, bringing him to Boston is going to be tricky and difficult.

Not sure what good that would do the Cs. He wouldn't be healthy for the first half, and they wouldn't have his Bird rights after the season. It'd be like signing Leon to a 1-year deal last year, except more expensive and without the Bird Rights.....

Ithought the consensus was that David Aldridge was wrong, it would not be necessary to wait the 90 days. Did I miss something on that thread later?

Maybe that is true? I dont know if it would be because the Wiz sign them and we send Sheed's contract so its a straight up deal, or if they can infact actually do a sign and trade with no waiting period... I was under the assumption they would have to wait for the trade, anyone have the answer?

FYI, a draft pick wouldn't just be a sweetner.  It would be the only reason for Wash to make a trade of this type, as trading for Sheed (or his contract) wouldn't do them any good since they can save money and cap space by just letting Howard walk.

I am thinking this would be true for any potential sign and trade.

Wonder if the Matt Barnes possibility has anything to do with getting Josh. If nothing else Bostson may want to see what Barnes does first;

The article mentions the Lakers but RealGM has them negotiating with Brown:

I'm on board with a S&T for Howard using picks to get Wash willing to deal. He would solidify the wing and actually allow Bradley to a potential factor because he would have a lot less pressure on him coming in as a rookie with Howard and Nate as buffers....

A bench of:

Nate
Bradley
Howard
Baby
JO (eventually)

is very exciting to me.....

Co-sign 100%. Pleaseeee get this done!
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.
