You just play the match up that works best, do you see JO shutting down Dwight Howard?
Perk won't be shutting down anyone in next 1.5 years, believe that. I like JO, he's a bigger asset than Sheed was last year.

If such a player exists and Ainge can swing it, I would be in favor of acquiring a younger, more durable version of Jermaine O'Neal and dumping Perk.

Can you name a few players that fit that description?

Sounds like Chris Bosh to me. Let's make it happen!

JO works given what was available (not much) and what the Celtics need from their center position (defense).  The price was a little inflated, but so is the market.

Really Ainge has basically told us with his strategy "two more years - we're going to go all out with this group".  O'Neal is imperfect, but younger options might not have been amenable to this two year plan.

That will be great.  Then the Celtics will have an even more dangerous team come playoff time.

No good young big would sign for a 2 year deal with a possible lockout looming.  This fits right in with the 2 year plan.  In a year we have an expiring and after that off the books, that's the beauty of this plan, and I believe all the old guard have one run left in them.

O'Neal is perfect for what we need and his jumper can stretch the floor out.

When we go into rebuilding mode we can target a young, athletic post but for now Jermaine fits the bill.

If JO shines the better for the Celtics and us.
