You have to hand it to Russell. I can't think of an NBA player then or since who handled situations like this better (and he faced plenty of them). He never backed down, but never allowed someone to bring him down to their level either.

His autobiography, BTW, is one of my favorites in sports (along with Kareem's, believe it or not).
