I think NOH would be a great target with Sheed, if he is going to retire, but I really do not see them giving up West AND a pick just for Davis and some salary relief.  I think they could consider West for Davis and Sheed, although that still might be a bit steep.

Remember, West is probably the best contract they have on their team.  He is a very productive player, and is paid reasonably.

More likely, they would float the pick, or Collison out there to get rid of someone like Posey or Okafor.

What could be interesting would be whether Danny would trade Sheed for Posey and either the pick or Collison.  It would be a real commitment salarywise, but a deal like that would put them in good position to make another run next year, if they can resign Ray.

David bleeping West and the 11th pick? You don't think they could find a team to absorb West and get a pick out of it? He is an all star... NO wants to cut payroll but they're not going to just give away their best players.

Something more possible would be:

Sheed and the 19th
For
Mo Pete and the 11th.
- Celtics move up in the draft and get an expiring for the deadline
- Hornets get finacial relief and a lower priced pick
This is probably a more realistic offer than the original proposal but one I'm not sold on.  Not a fan of Mo Pete and we really need a big to come back in a deal for Sheed.

I hear you, I'm not big on Mo Pete but it's worth it to move up in the draft and add an asset come the 2011 deadline to get a big. It buys us time at least, rather than just losing Sheed's $$$.

Any team under the cap would offer instant relief for David West. Why would NO go through the hassle of buying out Wallace? They're not looking to trade their best players, if they were they would have by now.

can't see the Hornets doing this.  I think if you want the #11 pick, you gotta absorb Emeka Okafor's insane-o contract.  He's signed on through 2014... 4 more years making 11-14mil a year.  OUCH!... I bet they'd do just about anything to get out from under that.

Sheed and Perk for Okafor and the #11...  Kiss any hope at future cap room goodbye.

Let's face it, the Hornets owner George Shinn is cheap. Given a choice between a contender paying the luxury tax and a lottery team under the cap, it's more than likely he would choose taking the lottery team. Given a mid first round pick and a mid 2nd round pick, he would take the 2nd rounder because he can pay them the minimum and not have to pay them guaranteed years on the contract.

They have recently in trades just given guys away rather than get caught in luxury tax land. Well, next year if they renounce all their free agents they can expect to have 11 guys on the team at a total team payroll of $70.5 million. Their first round draft pick will have a salary hold of $1.9 million. That would give the Hornets their minimum 12 players at a payroll of $72.4 million.

That is probably going to mean being in the luxury tax for a team that no one would feel would have a chance at contending. They probably won't even make the playoffs out west.

So let's help them cut some payroll.

Boston Celtics send Rasheed Wallace and Glen Davis.

New Orleans Hornets send David West and pick #11 in 2010 NBA Draft.

New Orleans then would have Rasheed Wallace retire which would free up $5.8 million($500.000 less than his salary as his slot would then be held by a minimum roster slot hold). The Hornets get a young local product that could thrive in a starting role and who could possibly help sell tickets and get under the luxury tax threshold.

The Celtics upgrade their overall talent level while getting a contract that terminates at the same time as KG's. A KG/West starting duo while Perk is out would be a lot better than some of the alternatives they could come up with through signing a free agent with just the MLE.

It also gives the Celtics a pick at 11 and 19 on Thursday. That way the C's could land 2 quality players in this draft as well taking Ed Davis or Ekpe Udoh with the first pick and a SF/wing with the second pick, like Quincy Pondexter or Damion James.

Then with the MLE they are wide open to do whatever they want in getting the best player(s) to fill holes, like Earl Watson or Steve Blake and then give what's left to a big man center like Zydrunas Ilgauskas or Jermaine O'Neal.  Then resign Ray, and Tony and add a one or a couple of vet minimum guy(s)(Yakhouba Diawara or James Singleton) or  and a 2nd rounder(PG - Jon Scheyer or SF - Marqus Blakely) and the roster looks like:

Rondo/Blake or Ridnour/2nd rounder
Allen/Allen/Mason
Pierce/Pondexter or James/vet minimum
KG/West/Ed Davis or Udoh
Perk/O'Neal or Ilgauskas

Built to contend again yet built to grow youth as well.

Love the Idea man I wish this could happen but I doubted man, but I keep my fingers cross cause I WANT WHAT WAS CHEATED FROM US THIS YEAR and thats the Championship. Thanks Zebra for giving the Lakers 37 foul shots to our 16 cheaters, I just feel sick when I think about it man. If the NBA does this again I'm done with them just like boxing.
