Paul George has dramatically moved up in the draft board and is projected to go in the 8th-12th range. I'm sold that this kid is going to be a special player based on workouts, his size for his position, and abilities Sign and trade Ray Allen to the Jazz for the 9th pick. Then do a sign and trade, Sheed for Al Harington, knowning Sheed will retire. Frees up even more cap space for NYK. Then sign Haywood for the MLE and Morrow for whatever cap space is left. Moves for now and the future. Morrow's shooting and defense could replace Ray and we bring in more length in Haywood to defend Howard, Pau, etc. Harrington also brings more length and is an exceptional 6th/ 7th man. And we develop George into a Allstar caliber player.

Rondo   Nate
George  Morrow
Pierce  Harrington
KG      BBD  Harrington
Perkins  Haywood   52nd Pick

I hate to be the wet blanket, but the Celtics have virtually nothing to offer another team on draft night to move up.

Our only assets for a trade on draft night are:

Wallace (whose situation is extremely tenuous/murky right now),
Glen Davis (whose BYC status makes any deal complicated),
a core player like Garnett, Rondo, or Perkins,
our own picks this year and in the future,
and/or cash.

I don't know much about cap space and how trading works, so I'll stay away from commenting whether or not the trade is possible.

But I do like what I see, and it would be great if we can make a shot at getting him.

edit: OK, I'll break it down.

First, if the Knicks trade Al Harrington, it would be a sign and trade, so it does not save them any cap space.  He is a free agent.

Also, if you sign Hayward for the MLE, there is no cap space to sign Morrow.

And you cannot sign and trade Ray for a draft pick.  For one, he can't be sign and traded until after the draft...but you could sign and trade him for the rights to the player drafted, so that's OK.  The problem is that the Jazz are over the cap, so they would have to send back a matching salary with the draft pick to make it happen.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
According to some here, offering Scalabrine might be enough to move up to get him...

Got it.
Thanks for explaining. Tp.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
The higher he climbs on the mock drafts the more upset I get. IMO, hes exactly what this team needed. A month ago he was projected to be going in the mid 20s. Now he's almost a lock for the top ten? I knew he sounded too good to be there at 19.

Yo Doom! I love your beats but I don’t think we’re moving up in this draft.  :P

Well, as guys like George move up on the boards other guys who were hyped before start to get overlooked and fall down to where we might be able to draft them.

You never know who might still be there @ 19 come draft night.

Well I mean we don't have a ton of assets but we certainly have enough to move up in the draft.  You just listed a bunch of assets. You don't think a team would accept #19 and a future first round pick for say 11 or 12?  The Celtics wouldn't pull the trigger on that deal, but we do have the ability to move up a little if we really want...

Paul George and Gordon Heyward are this year's version of MIke Duleavey Jr. and Shelden Williams. They will both be busts.

If we are going to trade up to go get a legit guy, we need to trade up and get Ekpe Udoh or Greg Monroe. KG could mentor either one of these guy and they would benefit greatly, as would the C's.
