If Pierce opts out, I could definitely see him going to the Clips. He'd get to play with Baron, LA's his hometown. They would contend out West.

That's a good point. And they could afford to give him 3 years $50 million.

Pierce isn't good enough to turn the Clippers into a contender.

Pierce has played on some crappy teams in his career.  Clippers should be better than last year if for no other reason than Blake Griffin will be playing, but does PP really want to go to a rebuilding project?  Leave a team that was five points/six minutes from a title, to a team that went 29-53 last season?

C Kaman
PF Griffin
SF Pierce
SG Gordon
PG Davis

$6 to $8 million to fill out the rest of the roster.

Are they really rebuilding? That's a playoff team next year with a 3-4 year window to contend before retooling at the 3.

Pierce is not passing on $20 million guaranteed this year.  But I do think the Clippers are an interesting match for him, if he would like to be traded.

I think you're wrong, and we'll be see many player's (Dirk, Amare) opting out this season to sign long term deals in order to avoid the CBA conflict/changes.

You're probably incorrect here. Pierce has similar or greater value than Ginobili who just got a 3 year, 40 million dollar contract. The new CBA is looming and it makes sense to ink your long term deal now to avoid a case where you are an injured or ineffective 34 year old.

OK, so say Pierce signs a 4 year, $55 million deal.  In order to match that, he would need to play out this season, and then sign a 3 year/$35 million deal.  You don't think he could get that next summer?

And that isn't even mentioning the fact that there is a ton of competition this summer, and not that much cap space for a guy like him.  Most of the cap space is going to be eaten up quickly by the younger guys, and then teams looking at older players are going to be looking for shorter contracts.  There is a great chance he would get squeezed, and have to take a much smaller deal.

Ultimately though, it is way too much of a risk for him to opt out, unless he is willing to give up money, in order to change teams.

Pierce is also less injury prone than Ginobili. On the other hand, extending a player that you know already fits into your system is different than signing a new guy who might not (like recent AI trades).
