of all the major sports we have in this country, pro & college included, i'd say the nba, by far, has the most incompetent group of officials ouytside of the o'bama administration.
if memory serves me correctly, seems the nba refs from the 1970's & 1980's were better - they got more of the calls correct, let the players decide the games, had much better rapport with the players and dealt with player conflict much better. i won't speak for the 60's because i was too young to understand if they knew what they were doing or not on those great sunday afternoon ABC games.
the stepford officials of today have very little feel for the game, miss tons of calls by calling non-existent contact or ignoring shooters attacking the basket getting hammered to the ground, have no give & take with the players opting instead to handle any difficulties with quick T's.
which ref was it during a celtics-pistons game that told a young dennis rodman to knock off the trash talk, only to have larry bird tell him he'd take care of it, which larry did by knocking down three straight fallaways in rodman's face.
that type of thing doesn't happen today. these guys are either too insecure or too scared to give the game its normal flow and only intercede as needed.
