I wish he'd left out the bit about complaining about the refs.  It concerns me that the players are looking for excuses for why they got beaten down so badly last game, rather than pointing the focus exclusively at themselves.

Well since Artest threw an elbow without any reprucussions I have no problem with it.

On another note I'm not sure (actually I am) why no one seems to be commenting on the cheap shot by Kobe that led to Perkins being knocked out for the season.

Both incidents were very poorly handled by everyone involved.  From the announcers to the media.

But hey that's all water under the bridge (except for Perkins blow out knee).

The number 17 is following me around today. That's a significant number in my life. I have no idea what it means. Probably nothing

I would just rather see Doc as the one to address the officiating (which has been terrible in this series.)  I think the players need to completely absorb the "we lost because we sucked on both offense and defense" message.  A second half elbow when we were down by 20 is pretty irrelevant in the grand scheme of things to complain about.

You take 17 stitches get no call on OBVIOUS cheap shot and then I'll respect your opinion on the subject.

I'll stick with Rondo and team on this.

Perkins being taken out by cheap shot led to some of that 20 point lead as well.

I would suspect they are more upset how they played and don't need to fake it by ignoring reality of the blatant cheap shot.  It is the last game of year so I think know what needs to be done.  Whether it gets done or not will have absolutely NOTHING to do with him commenting a cheap shot or horrible calls.

By that token, we should never criticize the players under any circumstances, since they're the ones playing the games.  That doesn't seem like all that interesting a blog, but to each their own.

We'll see how the players -- specifically, Rondo -- come out tonight.  If they play like they're capable of, they'll win.  If they play like in Game 6, or if they fixate on the refs, they'll lose.  It's that simple.

Nope I don't believe any of that except if they play well they have a good shot of winning. It's not only about play but, how it's called and how Perkins not being there (another cheap shot) will effect the game.  Complaining about refs in game or after the game will mean very little especially when it's correct.

We disagree, I'll stick with Rondo on this one.

But TP to a fellow Celtic fan.

Normally I would agree, but I think Rondo's issue with the refs was not intended to blame the loss or the poor play on officiating , it was intended to prevent cheap shots to him and his teammates. I think he's ok with not getting calls or bad calls, it's the cheap shots that lead to injuries that he wants to prevent, which is understandable. When you go home with stitches or missing teeth or whatever from good hard plays, then it's all good. When you go home with those things from dirty cheap shots that the players did not get punished for, then something's wrong.

I've watched that Perkins injury several times in a thread that set it up as a dirty play, but I've never seen anything like that, just looks like Perk came down wrong.  Anyway, if you think that Perk injury is why we lost game 6, then Doc disagrees with you (in his post-game press conference).

Honestly tonight it wouldn't have mattered the way thing's were going.

Then there's this Rondo foul.  Yeah he gets hit right in the chops, obviously he got his bell rung by one of the meanest SOB's to ever play the game, but it doesn't look particularly INTENTIONAL either to me, and they didn't lose because of that missed call either.

I've gotta agree with Hobbs on this one, leave the underhanded comments about the refs out of it and just win, we might as well have lost by 50 in that game and the refs had little to do with it.  Lets face it guys, this isn't the World Series of Chess, this is for all the marbles.  We were all complaining about the excessive fouls called in the first few games, that's not basketball.  We're the tougher team, we've got to beat them without the help of the officials or anyone else.  If we can't do that then maybe basketball's not our game...I know, let's have a spelling contest! (TP if you can name that movie :))

No one said either injury caused the loss. That's extrapolation.  But it's obvious losing Perkins to that cheap shot hurt the team in rebounding department.  And Kobe did hack down for no reason other than to hurt Perkins he didn't know it would cause him to lose his balance and blow out his knee.  But Kobe is well known for his cheap shots it's just the media ignores it because it doesn't go well with the story.  The Rondo play was intentional only you try not make an elbow look intentional so as to get away with it.  Obviously that worked with some including the refs whom it appears aren't hard to trick with all the flopping that's gotten rewarded in this series.

Remember -- the smug, arrogant, condescending, piece-of-crap Zenmaster said his team does not play this way. I despise that man.

Reggie Ghost yeas you are right but golly man you can not tell me the Celtics were screwed out of alot of call especially Tony Allen and Ray. Those non-call can effect a player and the game. Bryant has to be held accountable for that elbow pushing off its clear as all day. The freethrow diff is ridiculus man. We are clearly going up against the Fakers and the refs.

I understand what you're saying, a team can be helped or hurt by the refs for sure.  Now I've watched the Perkins replay a bunch of times and seriously can't detect anything dirty about what Kobe does there, I'm sorry I'm looking as hard as I can (perhaps someone can help me with this), and the Rondo foul was a tough hit without a whistle.  Here's the thing though, when we face a team like the Lakers or the Cavs, you've just got to factor the refs and the superstar calls into your challenge of winning.  IMO bad calls have gone both ways in this series.  At the end of the day, you've got to get stops, make buckets, and play through bad calls.  The players can't control what the refs are gonna do, they just have to go win anyway, that's why it's a challenge.

Hell imagine if you were going into a game 7 for the whole enchilada.  I bet you'd be ready to get hit in the teeth a few times on your way to beating the Lakers, right?  If I had it my way, we'd just leave all the complaining about the refs where it belongs.  We're the better team, we're the tougher team, but they're the Champs and if we want to win the Championship we've got to take it from them!
