Question: Has any other convicted felon been granted as much credibility as Tim Donaghy?

Answer: Yes, a convicted felon is a referee in the biggest game of our season tonight, Bennett Salvatore, you can look that up if you wish. A convicted felon also reffed game 1 in Joe Crawford, a convicted felon also reffed game 2 in Kenny Mauer.

In the mid-1990's they were indicted in federal court on tax evasion charges along with many of the men who are currently official supervisors.

Let's be specific here.  What these officials did was take their 1st class airline tickets, trade them in for regular tickets and pocket the difference.  It was a common practice and one that probably most people would do in the same circumstance.
Technically yes it's tax evasion, but it's tax evasion in the same way as if you won tickets to the game and decided to sell them instead and not pay taxes on the money you got.

Now, just to make myself clear I think the officiating in the finals has been horrible, just as it was during the regular season.  But I don't think all officials are corrupt
or that there is any conspiracy going on.  I just think NBA officiating stinks.  Period.

I'm starting to think that there's no real need for a league-wide referee conspiracy, just that the league can influence the outcome of games by the refs they choose (with a little "point of emphasis" nudge).

  • Doc could learn a thing or two from Norman Dale
So, for the record, Donaghy's "scouting report" turned out to be completely wrong, huh?

We had a total of one moving screen called against us (at least according to Doc), and Ray Allen was out of foul trouble all night, despite playing some pretty tight defense.

The only thing he got right was that the Lakers would win at least one game in Boston, which has been the case in every Finals in the history of the 2-3-2 format, with the exception of Detroit and Miami.  Shocker.

Maybe this is why his gambling "tips" were only successful about 50% of the time in games he wasn't reffing (to the point where the mafia quit betting on those games), but were right over 80% of the time when he was officiating.

+1, Roy. Donaghy is a clown and the credibility he has is simply ridiculous. No surprise he has a regular appearance now on the top clown sports radio show, Dennis and Callahan. It is a perfect gig for him. By the way, I believe there was one total moving screen called in the entire game on both teams. But everyone forgets how wrong Donaghy is and breathlessly awaits his next great game predictions.
