Given his skill set/contractual status and the current Celtics’ roster and coach, do you think Tyreke Evans would be a good fit for this team?

Absolutely. He could anchor the second unit and make this team a legitimate title contender.

I feel like with the second unit sometimes really struggling to create offense, this guy (who Ainge has always been high on) would be a perfect addition. He can handle, pass, create and shoot it from deep (40% this year). He’s also making peanuts.

This has been gone over before, but he would be absolutely perfect imo.

Can score at will, has a reliable jumpshot (shock horror!) and is a good playmaker, all the while being big enough to guard 3's easily. Would be perfect
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)

I'm the pro Tyreke camp. The only deal I see working for both is to include Smart which would sting but it's something I'd consider.

Why Memphis does it...
-Tyreke might should be looking at this year as an audition for a contender.
-Trading for Smart would give them the inside track to re-signing him in the offseason.
-Smart could be a nice fit with Conley or off the bench.
-Memphis is not much of an FA destination and needs to be creative in how they acuire young talent. Picking up Reke off the scrap heap and turning him into a re-signed Marcus Smart is found money.
-The last time the acquired a Boston drafted defensive monster they put his jersey in the rafter. Cheers TA.

Why Boston does it...
-Tyreke has returned to his ROY form and is arguably playing the best basketball of his career.
-He finally looks healthy(health is always a gamble but sometimes guys just need time to get their body right)
- Tyreke and Rozier would have less redundancy than Rozier/Smart. Reke would free up Terry to be an off ball threat.
-Boston only does this deal with the intention of re-signing Reke maybe try for short years high dollars.
-Choosing Terry over Smart would be the more cost effective option in a world where we need to resign Jaylen, Jayson, Irving.
-If your going to replace Marcus Smart with anyone at least bring in someone with that can match his size. Both Reke and Smart are massive for guards. Smart is 6'4 220 Reke is 6'6 220.

This is one of those fake hypothetical trades based on no rumor but IMO makes a lot of sense.

I don’t like the straight up Smart for Evans proposal for the simple reason we have Smart’s bird rights to re-sign going over the cap, and we wouldn’t have that with Evans.  Then you could be stuck with neither going into next year if the exceptions aren’t enough to re-sign Evans and with the way he is playing would probably be the case.

The smart play is to just re-sign Smart to a reasonable contract who we know is a winning player, and still young enough that could improve.

You'll get no argument from me if we re-sign Smart just think Reke could be that good for us that it's a fun pipe dream to imagine.

I would use the DPE and our own late first round pick though for Evans.  Evans can play the 3 alongside Smart, and would give us the scoring punch we could use for this season.  We have to be careful as I’d like for the Grizzlies to be another team to finish ahead of the Lakers. Lol

He might be, but he would be a 1 year rental because of salary.  We don't want to pay the tax next year because of future repeater tax implications.  4-5m a year can make all the difference.  Especially if we get the 2018 pick insteadof the 2019.

Impact of a Direct Tyreke for Smart swap

http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yah3r77w

Blatant one sided win in favor of the Celtics (11 win swing)

Trade machine  says we can't take on Tyreke's salary without sending money out, so I have no idea how using the DPE would work.

Also tried Tyreke for Rozier and Nader and the effect was almost the same. We gain 10 wins, they lose 11.

Doesn’t the trade machine use PER for those calculations? Because PER is an offensive metric, so any offense for defense swap will look artificially good.

I'd trust Lou Williams more to be able to fit in easier. He's also proven himself in this league far more than Tyreke.

The knocks on Williams are that he is a poor defensive player, and prior to last year, had underperformed in the playoffs. But he fit in great on the Rockets last year, so I'm comfortable he would fit here.

I'm not confident we would be able to get as much from Tyreke. He stills strikes me as a guy who struggles with a smaller role. If there is one thing we know about Williams, it is that when he is on the court he is going to score, regardless of how many minutes you play him.

I think I'd rather have a buyout player than a trade. I think Evans or LWill would be a good fit.
