I appreciate the sentiment and there were a few awful calls (BBD being called for a foul on a clear block) but, they had a good shot of winning playing their C game.  So I'm not overly concerned and looking forward to playing LA in the finals.

There is some validity for Boston to extend the series to limit any rust.  Not that they tried to lose just that it could benefit them in the long run.

And no the NBA would want the C's vs Lakers no one really cares about LJ.  It's just that ESPN hasn't realized it.

As much as that foul made me aggravated,(especially given the timing of it), I find it hard to complain about it when earlier in the game I believe Jameer Nelson got hit in the wrist as he went up for a runner/layup and no foul was called. I *believe* it was Nelson that got fouled, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. Even the announcers said that it was a foul, via looking at the replay.

This whole 'conspiracy' thing is crazy..what would have happened if Boston was blowing Orlando out of the water? Would the refs just call phantom calls over and over and over again to get the Magic back in the game? I don't think so. Besides, teams shouldn't be leaning on the refs to win games, nor blaming them if they lose - if they really are a great team they should be putting themselves in the position to put the game away instead of throwing it away and blaming others for losing.

Oh boy. I felt this topic was worthy of my joining this forum. Good to talk to all you Celtic fans. But my issue is with this Lakers fan. You really think the NBA has an outcome decided but wants to rig games for further profit? Do you REALLY believe this? For all you people who called "foul' on the Big Baby Davis "foul" on Jameer Nelson last night...let me put it to you like this. Would it have been a foul if PAUL PIERCE initiated contact with Dwight Howard's body...and not Jameer Nelson initiating contact against Big Baby? Yes, of course it would have. How many AND1 layups did Paul Pierce get last night? I'm not saying he didn't get fouled on the plays...but what I'm saying is he was fouled by BODY contact...he wasn't hit on the arm on any of those layups except ONE. Body contact in the NBA is considered a foul, even when the offensive player initiates it. Trust me, I hate the rule when other teams do it to us, just like I love it when Orlando players draw the foul. NBA rules are NBA rules. Stop whining about supposed "rigging" of a game on a "bogus" foul like the one on Davis, when the foul wasn't on his clean block...it was on the body contact initiated before Davis even had a chance to block the shot. The NBA is not rigged. If it is why do you watch?

No the irony of that call was BBD even avoided his attempt to dive into his body.  It was a horrible call but, I think the official was blocked by BBDs body.

Paul does get some border calls from time to time though.

Orlando deserved to win and I agree the NBA isn't rigged except for the ref who was caught fixing games.

Here is another conspiracy for you. Vince Carter drove to the basket for a slam dunk in the first half, replay showed a CLEAR, BLATANT hit on the wrist by Kendrick Perkins. No foul. So stop the whining guys. Celtics lost, Magic won. You weren't "defeated" by the referees. They made mistakes on both ends. Whine about a point here, the Magic deserved 2 there. Just watch the games, root for your team...and the better team will win. You are up 3-1. You need one win to be in the NBA Finals. If you lost a game you lost a game. The refs didn't lose it for you. No team is invincible. Trust me...I'm an Orlando fan. We were 8-0 in the playoffs until we got to you guys. Just watch the games.

I think you call you are referencing was Carter taking it hard to the rim trying to dunk and Perkins clearly hitting him on the wrist.  That BBD call was bad because of the portion of the game.  It was pretty evenly called though.

I agree with your take with regards to rigging as well.

I didn't mean to intimate that I thought Boston got the short end of the stick.  Orlando most certainly deserved to win.  I was just commenting on that one call.

Interesting... it appears you are trying to start an issue now.  Not one person has disagreed with you concerning Orlando deserving the win except for some random Laker fan.  Be happy your team won a game.

Neither the Celtics or the Lakers executed in their last games and their opponents did. Why don't we just leave it at that?

The game seemed fairly reffed overall.  Magic got some calls in the end but nothing crazy.  One gripe would jameers football dive into pierce with 4 seconds to go in reg.

Would be surprised if Orlando can play that well again this game didn't change my mind about the series at all.

Look at Howards stats and they still needed OT and 2 very lucky 3 pointers (off the glass going left and a deep rainbow with hand in the face)

Unless the league has Rondo in their pocket, I don't think there is any rigging going on.  If Rondo had shown up even halfway focussed (or healthy...he looked more than a step slow), the C's would have run away with this, and would be reclining until next Tuesday or Thursday.

This game was fairly reffed.  The only problem I had was with the blatant attempt by the ref to try to bait Sheed into a second technical (why not just give him two right away...I think he may have deserved it?).  But that was clearly something personal against Sheed (again, he deserved it), not against the C's.

The refs did interject themselves into the game in some pretty big moments, and they lacked consistency from call to call.  Here are two examples (out of many):

On the possession before the Nelson drive where he throws a shoulder into Baby, gets his shot blocked, and gets rewarded at the line, Nelson had body-bumped Rondo on a floater that rimmed out.  If you're going to call one, you need to call the other.  If you're going to swallow your whistles on one play, do it for the other.  Down the stretch, the officials were clearly giving certain calls (or noncalls) to the Magic that they hadn't been giving the Cs.

Here's another example: remember late in the 1st quarter when the Cs trapped Nelson, poked the ball out, Nelson falls over going after the ball, and then Tony Allen comes in a little bit after that and basically bumps an already falling Jameer in order to get at the loose ball?  Well, Tony got called for the foul and Jameer got two at the line.  Fast forward to the end of the game, where Paul is double teamed, the ball gets poked away, he bends down to pick up the ball, and just as he's about to secure it, here comes Jameer Nelson, who basically shoulders him to the ground and prevents Pierce from regaining possession and getting off a shot.  If you're going to call something at the end of the 1st, you have to call it at the end of the game too.

THAT's what we're complaining about in this thread.  The lack of consistency and how it seemed to favor the Magic down the stretch and in overtime.  And, so while I'd probably agree that the game--OVERALL--was pretty evenly officiated, I'd also argue that the inconsistency in what was and what was not called a foul seemed to hurt the Cs and help the Magic down the stretch.

And if you wanna talk about consistency, why does Perk continually get called for cheap illegal screen fouls, while Howard and Lewis basically act like pulling lineman on about half of their screens?  I don't think Lewis set his feet once all night...
Folly. Persist.

I remember seeing this and being confused as to why the clock stopped.  I thought for a second they had called a timeout but that clearly wasn't the case.

That being said I don't think there's some grand conspiracy, I think the guy who manages the clock just messed up.
