Against the Magic, it doesn't seem like there's a position I'm overly worried about a player getting into foul trouble.

Anyone else feels this way? Maybe a bit in the PF and maybe at the 1, but other than that I'm comfortable with players getting into foul trouble since I feel we have enough players in our bench that match up well against the Magic.

In contrast, against Cleveland I felt that 1-3 and 4 were problem areas if we got into foul trouble.

So in all, it just feels like we can afford to be more aggressive on both sides of the ball against this team, and the cost of it not being too high as it might be against other teams.

I'm always concerned when Rondo is in foul trouble

  • Rondo = Good
Perk and Sheed are going to rack up fouls pretty quickly, same with Davis.  But as long as we can continue to effectively defend inside while rotating those three guys as necessary, it should be fine.

Otherwise I think we'll be fine.

No concerns over foul trouble.

Dwight Howard is the only player that draws fouls at a high rate on their team and Boston have three excellent post defenders that they can throw at him and then have KG as a backup plan. Not a concern.

Nelson + Carter don't draw a lot of fouls and the Magic haven't been able to break the Celtics defense down in pick and rolls, isolations or transition ... so they are not getting into the lane very often, not getting the defense off balance, which as a team makes them less likely to draw fouls too.

I missed a lot of the game, but I was a little concerned about Perk getting called for setting a moving pick early in the first quarter.

  • Doc could learn a thing or two from Norman Dale
For obvious reasons, we need to keep Rondo out of foul trouble.  We simply don't have a great backup for him.

I'd also prefer to see Perk stay out of foul trouble.  Rasheed has been great, but I still don't fully trust him.  I'd rather that Doc had the option of inserting him, rather than being forced to.

for our bigs, no concern at all
perk, wallace, davis and even williams can defend and give fouls "generously" to howard
i'm more worried about ray allen & rondo but both tend to use their fouls well

I'm more concerned with the team getting in the penalty too early, like they did with 9:30 to go in the game.  The Magic didn't take as much advantage of it as they could've, but at the same time, I think the Celtics loosened up on defense because they didn't want to pick up more fouls, which led to less contested shots.

I disagree.  I was going to post on this, but with all the press going on about how we constantly foul Howard, and with the NBA not wanting another sweep, you can bet that we will be in foul trouble in game 2.

I predict that between Sheed, Perk and Baby, we will have 8 fouls between them. And Williams CAN NOT defend Howard, even with fouls.  He will get crazy deep position on him, and have multiple dunks.

This will be a huge issue in game 2, mark my words.

(if it isn't, we will win this game, and be looking for at a sweep!)

I'm not comfortable with foul trouble at any position as I'd prefer our starters get to play their normal minutes. Perk too. He had a rough night with the turnovers but as good as Sheed and Baby were defensively I give Perk the edge because I think he did the best job of contesting Dwight's shots without fouling.
