Let's hope that Vince's playoff legacy has been solidified as Nick Anderson 2.0.

Respectfully, Coach Hobbs, it offends me that any comparison is made between carter and Anderson.

Anderson never openly tanked for a trade and bragged about it after.  Anderson choked on free throws.  carter will choke just by virtue of being himself.

If the thugster is electable to any hall of fame, why  not carter?  They're about equally condusive to team basketball.

Them's some Hall of Fame free throws right there. Huh, Vince?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHA!!!!!!!!!!

Whenever Vince comes up for HOF consideration, video of the last minute and a half of this game should be shown.
Good thing Pierce, KG, and Ray Allen have never missed big free throws before....

Wait a minute....

That game sums up Vince Carter perfectly.  Not only the foul shots, but the hanging of the head and pouting after.  But the thing that really sums up Vince Carter is when he rolled on the ground after tweaking his wrist a little bit, and then actually limping off the court.  I know we can't judge pain, but doesn't the man have any adrenaline when he plays?  It looked like an injury that the normal player might notice the next morning a little bit.  Vince is the founding father of the "star player roll around" on the floor.

I try to stay away from criticisms like that, if only because our own captain also has a reputation for being a bit of a drama queen.

I swear Lebron, Pierce, Wade, and other stars all learned that move from Carter.  The camera goes on the player, everyone is supposed to wonder if the player is ok... I don't remember much of that pre-Vince.

LOL at others learned from Vince, he's just a really soft player fearless until hes hit or hits the ground but I like Vince a lot, always respectful helping up opposing teammates etc

Since his Toronto days, whenever my girlfriend walks in and I'm watching a game Vince is playing in, the first thing out of her mouth is "Did he roll around yet?"

Part of the reason for that is the ridiculous selling of flagrant fouls and charges that didn't exist pre-this era.

VC ain't a Hall of Famer.

He's got good numbers, to be sure, and a lot of All Star game appearances.  Flashy, popular guy.  Dunk over Fred Weis is one of the greatest plays in basketball history.

He ain't a Hall of Famer.

The obvious comparison is our own Paul Pierce.  We all kind of talk about the C's having three Hall of Famers, but Pierce wasn't considered to be HOF material until 2008.  There was SOME talk that MAYBE Pierce would be a HOF even if he never won much of anything, but you'd have to say he was a longshot at the time.

Pierce and VC's career numbers are nearly identical.  I ain't smart enough to do things like adjust for pace and all that.  The raw numbers, the big numbers, are almost identical:

Scoring; VC at 22.9/game, PP at 22.5
Rebounds; VC at 5.3/game, PP at 6.1
Assists; VC at 4.2/game, PP at 3.9

Basically, the same numbers.

He's like the 2007 Paul Pierce - a great player, but not an all-time great.  He's a poor-to-medicore, disinterested defender (again, like Pierce pre-'08).  He wasn't durable.  VC ain't ever won anything, and has a well-deserved repuation for coming up short when the lights are brightest (reinforced last night).

And, he's whined his way out of bad situations.

So, no, I don't think VC's a Hall of Famer today, just like three years ago I didn't think Paul Pierce was a Hall of Famer.

Nope.  That's another comparision I meant to make.

VC's flashy and popular, and for a fairly short period was legitimately one of the best players in the league.  He wasn't dominant for long enough, and his shortcomings are too onerous.

But, he'll probably make it (undeservedly) just due to his popularity.

EDIT: Another comparision; VC's cousin, T-Mac.  T-Mac was just as dominant when he was in Orlando, but nobody thinks of him as a Hall of Famer because he's been hurt so often and had so little success in the postseason.  T-Mac's career averages are better in almost all areas except PPG (small difference, which you can mostly attribute to his coming to the NBA right out of high school).  He also only averaged ~62 games a season versus VC's 69.

If you think VC's a Hall of Famer, don't you have to think the same about T-Mac?
