Now is a great time to figure out if Tony should be here long term. I would let him play almost all the minutes on Wade and Lebron if we make it past the Heat.

Truthfully no one else we have is capable of defending either. Pierce is too banged up and we need him for scoring. Let Tony play big minutes and let Tony make mistakes. He is healthy and he is in a contract year. I have faith given the opportunity he can step up for us.

Wade yes...LeBron no
Pierce can guard Bron as well as anyone ever will. Tony killed Wade and if Doc is smart enough, he will sit Ray who can't defend Wade or score against Wade.

I think TA should be used to guard Wade for significant time.  I think his minutes will be connected to how well Ray is shooting.

I just don't want to see try to run the point again.  When he took over for Rondo, the offense screeched to a halt.

Let him play off others.  He plays better that way.

Well Tony beat out Nate for the backup point guard job, so I think you're going to have to get used to it.  I personally would rather have Tony bringing the ball up than Paul or Ray.

This. Tony making judgments with the basketball is bone-chilling.

If Ray is reverting back to his early round playoff 0'fers similar to the 2008 playoffs I'll be more than happy to see him riding the pine while TA plays with Rondo.  I'm not sure it's not the best way to go anyway.  But I would play Robinson with him if he's not in there with Rondo.

I love TA and Rondo on the court together.  Awesome!

No doubt.  It isn't the sit back and wait for someone type of defense.  It's the up in your face pestering type I appreciate.  My only concern is Tony getting touch fouls called on him to keep the game close.  Wade might be off limits in game 2 unfortunately.

Yeah I love that aggressive defense too.  Great combo.  They really force the action and make the offense react to them, instead of just reacting to the offense.

Tony running the offense usually means the offense sputters.  (like on Sat)

I believe (even though he was sick) Rondo ended up playing most of the 2nd half.

I am not saying "play Nate".  I am saying that someone else should be running the offense.  Rondo, Pierce or even KG down low.  Let TA play off him (which is what he was doing when he was effective scoring)

Tony and BBD were plus 17 and plus 15 respectively for the Celts the other night. They won the game for us and it was nice to see.

Tony played phenomenal defense on D Wade but he is too good to keep down for an entire series.

Rondo and Perk, our starters have to play better in game 2. If they do, and we get the same spark from these two bech guys, we should run aweay with this series, even with KG out in game 2.

I personally like TA playing the SG while on the floor with Rondo ... I think he's more comfortable there, that it uses his abilities more effectively, and that he's the best guy to defend D-Wade, obviously. We can sub Ray and even rotate him to the SF position at times ... makes for some very interesting, (and I think effective) combinations at both ends.

PG is not Tony's best position by far, and being shoe-horned into the combo-guard role has hurt his development in the past.

But that said, he's been playing PG pretty well this season, especially in Game 1.  If you go back and watch him at PG in the first half, you'll see him protecting the ball against a good defender (Chalmers), getting the team into its sets, and penetrating and dishing with great effect (and great decision making), only to see Baby blow layups and Ray Allen brick 3s.  Let's not judge a guy's ability to run a team SOLELY on the ability of his teammates to convert shots.

The offense didn't screech to a halt or sputter or fail to initiate like it did under House's reign--guys just missed shots.  You can't put that on TA.  He was doing all he could out there...
Folly. Persist.

You got to have Tony playing heavy minutes out of the 2 spot. Ray should play the rest and get some minutes at pg backing up Rondo. Rotate TA/Allen/Rondo for the 48 minutes of both guard spots. Just have Ta play the shooting guard and Ray playing the point. If we play Cleveland you let Tony and Pierce switch off defensive assignments of the 2 and 3.

Tony is healthy and he has really earned the chance to go up against Wade and Lebron. Also we dont really want Pierce chasing Lebron?
