I was looking at the CP3 to the Knicks trade idea and it got me thinking about Free Agents next year.

Does the Bobcats have an unfair advantage over everyone else next year now that Jordan is the owner?  Lets just say he signs L.James to a big contract but then sign D.Wade to a smaller contract so that it works under the Cap but then reward him under a shoe contract.

ie ( #'s will prob. be way off but point is made )  Offers Wade a 120 million dollar shoe contract if he signs with the Bobcats but only a 90 million if he signs with another team.

Is this possible,  I know it is prob. illegal but I think easy to do.

Any compensation paid by Bobcats ownership would count against their salary cap.  However, if an outside company attempted to pay a player that much as an "endorsement" specific to one city, things might get messy.  I'm sure the league would try to step in, but if there was no collusion between the team itself and the sponsor / booster, it might be hard for the league to make a case.
