I think one of the biggest issues for this team since the championship year (other than the obvious injury bug) is that we have no accountability. Players are still living off their championship rings. They are getting the benefit of the doubt because they won a title even when they deserve a little kick in the hind end. Examples:
PP - He's become a ball hog once again. He's forcing shots and not playing within himself one night, and then the next he's refusing to post up or go to the hole and opts for being the 3 pt champion. He isn't giving the effort on the defensive end.
Rondo - He slacks 3/4 the time on the defensive side of the ball going for the cute steal instead of playing defense with his feet. He at times attacks the basket and creates havoc and at times dribbles the clock out and forces himself or a teammate into a bad shot at the buzzer. He runs the clock down at end of quarters to the point where he alone can take the jumper. Very smart Rajon. I think you're like 2-50 on those.
Perk - He is either letting his emotions take him out of the game, or showing none at all. He is playing soft or reckless most of the time. Where did our young stud go?
Sheed- When he puts himself down on the block he is our best offensive player. He routinely kills people down there, and then when they go down his 3 often follows. He is playing a lot better than he was, but still needs to be the focal offensive point when out there.
BBD- I think he has naked pictures of Doc or something because this guy can do whatever he wants and almost never sees a reduction in time. His play has been atrocious as of late and he is out of shape. Handing him the backup spot after what he did in the offseason and the shape he came back in was a big mistake.
Those are just a few examples. Unfortunately Doc's method of coaching doesn't allow him to be hard on these guys. Not one of them should be able to do whatever they want out there without fear of losing time. The only guys I see come with consistency out there are Ray, Daniels, and Williams. Too early to tell about Nate and Finley. Doc needs to set the team straight and let them know that if they are unable to give a better effort from the opening tip that they will be yanked and sat until they feel they can. If they can't for physical reasons then they will sit. If they won't give the effort they will sit longer. The following lineup couldn't play any worse than we are playing and would at least give the effort we expect and are paying for:
Daniels
Ray
Finley
Scal
Shelden
Maybe a game or two watching these guys and the effort they give would light a fire...
PP has become a ball hog? I haven't seen that at all. When Rasheed goes down on the block, he is out best offensive player? sorry, I haven't seen that either. Yeah, he can be effective, but the best. Yikes! Rondo slacks 3/4 of the time on defense? Okay, I can buy that a little bit. But he has always played that way, even when we won the championship. Regarding Perkins: "what happened to our young stud?" This guy was never a stud. He has always been a fringe starting center caliber player. and now that the big three is stinking it up so is Perkins. The aging stars won't be able to cook Perkins' meal and serve it to him forever. Regarding BBD, I don't understand what all the hate is about. He usually plays hard, which is more than we can say about Wallace, and Doc has Davis playing out of position.
The ball goes to PP and it never gets passed anymore. Whether it is jacking up a 3 or fading away from 20, if the ball hits his hand and he doesn't make ANY attempt to create a better shot for someone I'd call that a ball hog.
I'm not saying that Sheed being one of our best offensive options is a good thing, but other than Ray who should be the focal point on the starting squad, he's the next best one. He eats guys up down there when he decides to. Who can you even argue is better other than possibly PP?! (see above paragraph)
I think you are right as to the reason Perk is not playing as well, but if someone was going to get nasty and challenge the teams manhood I thought it would be him.
BBD does hustle at times, but the problem is his lack of production coming from that hustle. He isn't DOING anything out there other than running around. If he'd have come back in great shape he'd be the player we all know he could be. He is always going to be out of position because he isn't big enough to play center, but too fat to play PF. He needs to hustle in the offseason just as much as on the court or else he's a scrub. I think he is Fake Hustle.
