I have a confession, I, have cheered against the Celtics on more then one occasion this season. Was it a change of loyalty? No, I like many (and i started very early on) believed, whole heartedly, the best thing for this team, was to swap Ray Allen, for a young asset, even if it was at the expense of our chances this year. I thought the only way to keep this team in contention in the coming years, is if there was a collapse this year.

I knew it was wrong! I could hardly watch the games, it killed me to see them lose, but I knew it was for the best... and it happened, we lost to the lakers, to the clipers, to the hawks, to the hawks, and to the hawks. And all signs pointed towards a Ray Allen trade.

But the deadline came..... and went. And we got our young guard!.... Except not really, what we got was a spark off the bench, and we are still going to wait and see what comes of him. Once we wipe that Knick's stench that he still carries with him, and he puts on that green. Who knows?

But, we still have Ray Allen, the slumping guard, and we're still relying heavily on Kevin Garnett.

Now, we can sit around, speculating as to who the big buyout might be. But it won't matter, this is the core we have. Whether we get Mikki Moore or Joe Smith, we need a healthy big 3 to be successful.

After watching the last few games, i've realized one thing, there is still something there. Something that we have seemed to tap into, once the tension of lingering trade rumors was broken, a little bit of this came back:

I love a good story, and the script has already been written.

Anything is possible.

The ultimate foreshadowing on an aging team, that appears to have run out of time.

People like to turn basketball into a game a addition and subtraction. Yeah, the cav's got Antwan Jamison. But at the end of the day, Basketball is all about the moment.

What is Antwan Jamison going to do when Ray Allen can't miss?

What's Antwan Jamison going to do when KG gets that spring in his step, for the big game, for that big moment?

What's Antwan Jamison going to do when Paul Pierce becomes, the truth?

Let me break it down to you like this, Glen Davis last year hit a shot, in the Orlando Magic series that won us a game. Flat out, undeniable, it won us that game. That's 1/7 of a series that effects whether or not you are eliminated, that Glen Davis dramatically altered. 1/7 of a season.

We have to come to accept that the talent of a team is impossible to measure. You can only get a general idea of what that team can do. So here is my assesment.

We have a young, talented, pass first point guard, that this team hasn't seen the likes of in a very long time.

We have a shooting guard who will go down as one of the greatest shooters of all time, sure he's been slumping, and he will probably never be the great ray allen again. But the fire is still there, you'd be slumping too with all those rumors flying around.

We have a power forward who we haven't seen all year. That's how I feel. We still haven't played with KG since he went out last year. Will we ever play with him again? I'm not sure, but he is the last player in the league I would ever count out.

We have a captain who is younger then we give him credit for. Who is having the best 3pt shooting year of his career, and will do everything in his power to bring this group one last championship.

That's our core, you can throw perk in there too, but that's who we have to go with right now. I can't help but imagine these three veterans hoisting up that trophy one last time. The magnitude of that moment would be unreal.

You can count them out if you want, but I think you might miss out on a pretty memorable run.

It's a team I think we can all get behind. whether you liked what they did at the deadline or not. We have to cheer harder for this team then we ever have before. Because really,

We have no choice.

TP for a nice post.

Let me add that any team can go far if it gets hot at the right time.  This isn't about "riding a hot hand," but about a team clicking together at the right time.  The Cs did that at the beginning of the season, and the recent 3 game W streak might be the start of them doing it again to end the season.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed...
Celtics fan for life.

one of the hidden problems with them as they slipped was the inability to play good defense in key stretches.  Their weakside in particular was bad (see how Rashard Lewis scored at end of the game in Orlando).  If they compete and execute defensively with the quality they have shown since the break - they will be fine.  Maybe not a championship favorite, but wel will maximize our opportunity.  Our team has thriven on a defensive backbone and the last 3 games we have started to live up to it.
