I've gone to movies and concerts by myself on my will, but I'm not sure I could comfortably do it at a Celtics game because the cheering and stuff comes easy when you're with someone. If a friend bailed on me last minute and I had two tickets, I might go alone, but I wouldn't buy just one ticket with the intention to go unaccompanied.

its more fun having some1 to go with, but i would still have fun going alone.  i have been to some games alone (i have season tix) and once in a while no1 is available to go with me.  i'd rather go alone, then not go at all. on a side note, i know the people on both sides of my pair of seats as they also have season tix and over the years we have essentially become friends, so my going alone doesnt always mean im not talking/interacting with others.

I always roll with a crew. While I'm sure going solo wouldn't be bad per se (I watch the games on TV by myself for the most part) sporting events were just made for being drunk and being with friends. Even if it's OK being by yourself, why wouldn't I want to have more fun by being with my friends? Especially considering the ticket prices

I went to the Celtics/Lakers game yesterday only because I couldn't get more than one ticket for the game.

I had a relatively good time. I can easily get into conversations with good fans and even talked with a few Laker fans. There were many!

I went to game 4 of the 2003 ALDS alone. I think it depends on the person. If you're one to talk to the people next to you at a game (which I am) you can definitely have a good time, which I did. Saw a classic, Papi game winning double off Keith Foulke, who got the blown save for the A's, in the 8th. I was extremely upset that I would have to miss my first Pats game since 94. It was alright though, I had my Willie McGinest (hence the pats55 in my name here) jersey underneath my Pedro jersey, and had a walkman on me with the Pats game the whole time. I updated my area all game on the Pats, at one point during the 8th inning America the Beautiful when everyone is supposed to be silent Mike Cloud, yes Mike Cloud, scored a td, I informed everyone and a guy (definitely wasted) decided to scream "Pats TD" at the top of his lungs. Sox won, Pats won the first of what would become a 21 game winning streak, and I had a blast. It also helped that I had a five minute walk home afterward.

A big part of the reason I go alone has to do with not being able to get more tickets.  For instance I went to Game 1 and 6 of the finals on my own and dont regret it one bit.  There was no way I was finding anyone else to drop 400 bucks on nosebleads.  I also did that several times during the playoff in the early 2000's.  I do enjoy going with other people, but its always more enjoyable if they know what they're talking about.

I also understand that its more fun to get drunk and cheer at the game, but I love just watching the basketball being played with no other disruptions.

I've gone alone before a couple times. It's definitely better to go with a buddy, even if that person knows little to nothing about the Celtics. I had a better time alone when there was no one sitting next to me so I didn't feel the urge to talk than the time where there was someone sitting next to me but that person didn't care to talk to me when I felt like saying something about the Celtics. lol. I've also had experiences when I went with someone that I've chatted a lot with random Celtics fans so I guess its a gamble either way.

Went alone just once ... still enjoyed the game obviously, but it was not remotely the same or as enjoyable ... not at all. I guess it depends on each person's personality ... I'm sure there are people who can enjoy it just as much whether alone or not ... I'm just not one of those.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
my oldest son is now 10 and a sports die-hard...i like going to sporting events with him because we both like to get there early enough to help unlock the doors and are never in a hurry to leave.  he knows when to talk and when to shut up (ha!).

i went to a celtics-cav's game with my wife once...she asked a thousand questions.  as much as i love her (and i dearly do) it kinda took me out of the zone... ;D
