Who are Shaq and Lebron to say who should be in the contest? Lebron is such a doo doo head! He is afraid that his image will be torn if he looses to the players who are currenttly signed up for the contest because they aren't "stars." And for him to back out of the competition after stealing the lime light from all the participants last year is just a doo doo head move. He should never be used in the same sentence as Larry or Michael. Those guys went out and competed no matter the circumstances. Don't disrespect the game. Guys a straight up punk.

  • TRANSFORMATION INTO CHAMPION COMPLETE!!!
I thought it was a pretty good idea on their part to call out the other guys, especially with Haiti benefiting. My only complaint would be that they change half of the money going to Haiti, to all of the money going to Haiti, they can afford it. Then they need to call out Sprite to up the prize money, lets face it a dunk contest with VC, Kobe and Lebron would draw a lot of attention and up the advertising for Sprite.

I hate the Cavs and I'm no huge fan of Shaq but his idea is a good one.

Make the Dunk Contest relevant by getting actual league stars to participate in it (not just tiny guys who happen to have ridiculous verticals), and then turn it into a charity thing for Haiti.
Never forget the Champs of '08, or the gutsy warriors of '10.

Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

More on topic, I'm not sure how LeBron dropping out and Shaq coming up with an idea for charity makes the Cavs organization arrogant.  I wish LeBron was participating, but Shaq's idea is a very good one - it'd make a ton of money for charity, promote the league, and make the Slam Dunk Contest a big event again.

Edit: btdubs I'm from Cincinnati, Ohio; just slightly less depressing than Cleveland - though they at least have a professional basketball team.  ::)

Also on the list of "things LeBron is" besides whatever obscenities you originally wrote and "straight up punk": really, really good at basketball.  Currently one of the league's two top players, if not the single best, in fact.

I am not sure how many Cavs fans there are that believe last year was a successful season.  I for sure didn't think it was.

I think the idea for the dunk contest is great, someone had to step up and say it. Besides, the all-star weekend activities are usually just a fun distraction for these guys.

yea, that's the part that I was surprised at. I'm sure that if this actually happened, the NB would arrange to give all of the $$ to Haiti instead of half.
