Good for Bay, seems like a nice enough guy and this was his one chance at a big contract. I'm just annoyed that we dont get a first rounder for him now, a sandwich and a second isnt bad though.

Free-agent outfielder Jason Bay has reached agreement on a four-year, guaranteed $66 million contract with the New York Mets, a baseball source confirmed to ESPN.com Tuesday.

The agreement will become official once Bay passes a physical exam sometime next week, the source said. The deal includes a vesting option year that could increase Bay's overall payout to slightly more than $80 million over five years.

Good luck...Too bad the Sox couldn't work something out with him.  He was a solid player here.
Yup

The Mets will regret this deal in less then 2 years.  Absolutely horrible fit...have fun with him in the OF there...

I like Jason Bay, I wish him the best...but that is going to look like a horrible deal soon.

I agree.  And I think Bay is going to regret it in less than 2 years.  I feel bad for him, because I think he got some bad advice from his agent, who completely misread the market.  And for better or worse, it seems like this is happening much more often in baseball these days, where the money just isn't out there for the non-elite talent.

I think bay will be someone who the Mets trade in two years when they need to dump salary because they aren't winning.

I think Holliday ends up in St. Louis and after that the free agent dominos all fall down.

I just think it's silly that Bay is getting the type of money he is or, for that matter, Lackey is getting the type of money the Sox will be paying him. I hear $16 million a year for a pro athlete, I think, best of the best in his or her sports. Bay and Lackey just don't strike me as best of the best.

Good players. Probably nice people. No where in the world are they worth the type of money they are being paid. I mean, I think this now places both players deeply into the list of the top 20 highest players in MLB. Neither are a top 20 talent, IMHO.

Excellent!  I didn't want him back. Terrible defender.  Now let's get Holliday.

He was a nice player during his time in Boston, however, for that money I'm glad to see him go rather than see Theo overpay.

Agreed, at least we don't have to worry about him coming back to haunt us.

I actually feel kind of bad for the guy because when he's only hitting 20 HRs a year and hitting a lot of fly ball outs in that cavernous outfield in Citi Field, the Mets fans are going to turn on him horribly.
