I think TA would be more vaulable on an up tempo team (Knicks, Suns, Warriors) than he is on the Celtics.  He's not a good fit for Rivers' offense.

Frankly, TA shines because of Rondo.  TA has become a running mate, and when one of them gets a steal or deflection, they both take off down the floor.

Which works fine in the regular season.  Come playoff time when there is better defense, the lack of shooting between those two becomes a big liability.

Yes, that's right.  It helps to have a Ray Allen and a Rasheed Wallace on the floor when Tony and Rondo are in together.  Otherwise the defense will pack it in.

However, TA is a pretty good post up player. He's strong and has good moves down on the block, so he will draw alot of fouls. That's one way to compensate for his lack of consistent outside shooting.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
Man this blog is like Leonard from "Memento," nothing remotely new here.  TA can't play well when inserted for short stints, but if you give him some steady minutes he seems to loosen up on the court and play better.  Time and time again this is what we've seen, and since he's not going to be getting regular 15+ min games for this team when the Captain or Quise come back, he'll return to form as a totally unusable option for >5 min per.

TA has much higher value to a mediocre team that can offer him a big role with big mins than he ever will to us, and I hope that that coupled with his valuable expiring contract will be enough to buy us something of real value at the trade deadline...

TP, your singing to the Choir.

Tony can play, but he needs to be given a certain amount of minutes and role to succeed. Like you said he won't find the minutes or role when the teams fully healthy, but even if he did theirs always those timely injuries. This is where Wdleehi is dead on(TP) we should hope he plays well so he raises his value and becomes an even better trade-able asset.

Well, Marquis Daniels doesn't shoot that much better than Tony, and you could probably get a lot more in return for Daniels.

It makes no sense to say that a player ought to be traded in a vacuum. The issue is always, what's coming back?

In addition to what I had posted earlier, it gives me peace of mind to know that Tony is another Wing we can throw at Kobe.

Even once Pierce and Marquis comes back, TA will still get some minutes, I believe. And against certain teams (like LA) he can certainly be a big help.

Of course he won't stop Kobe completely, but he can help slow him down.

Just thinking about having Pierce, TA, Marquis and Ray Ray to throw at Kobe makes me sleep better. That's just my take.

I don't think Tony would be all that effective against Kobe. He'd be vulnerable to being posted up, just like Ray is.

Pierce remains our best option to guard Kobe. Though with Artest that's not likely to happen unless he's out of the game.
