Mike Lowell NOT Traded To Rangers (Updated)

Well, that's fun news for the Red Sox.

They gotta try an move him still...This could be ugly with some drama next season if he's still around and we may have acquired either adrian gonzalez or adrian belter and Lowell is riding the pine the majority of the time. I know he's not that type of guy, but he wants to start and play and thinks he still has stuff left in the tank (and I believe him), but somethings just not right.

I don't see it that way. It doesn't sound like the Sox and Padres are close to getting anything done, but that's more about not wanting to trade the whole farm than about Lowell. Money has nothing to do with it because Gonzo's not making much money right now and the Sox are paying Lowell's contract whether he's on the team or not. I think Theo's made it clear Lowell isn't playing another game as a member of the Red Sox, and he showed last year in his pursuit of Texeira that if he can land his guy he'll worry about trading Lowell later.

Now the question is what will happen next.  I am really afraid they are targetting Nick Johnson.  He is Theo's type of player, but he misses a ton of time.  With Drew already on the roster, they can't afford another player that unreliable. 

I would be really upset if we picked up Nick Johnson.  He has long been one of my least favorite players and I don't have any clue why.  He just bugs me.

Also, if we add him, I think we could make a run for the Most Boring Team of all time

TP---  I really believe that in a year both Ellsbury and Papelbon will be gone and the Sox really will qualify as the "Most Boring Team of All Time" Theo will have 9 guys who 'work the count' and the games will all be 4 1/2 hours long.
But regarding the post- thanks to Mike Lowell for being a great player and playing hard and hurt.

Honestly, I think baseball is boring anyways, so if they are the most boring team ever, but win, then I will be happy. 

I personally find "working the count" fun. For one thing, it usually results in hits anyways, cause the starting pitcher can only make the perfect pitch so much. Secondly, fact that we actually are a team built on making starting pitchers work gives us a better chance to win.

Yeah, I think this is right.  This news basically means the Red Sox will be paying even more to have Lowell play on another team.

All depends on the hitter.  Coco Crisp was really hurt by this mentality I think.  He was a free swinger in Cleveland and did a much better job.  Also look at Nomar, he was another example of someone who would have been hurt by taking as many pitches.  A lot of times, I'd rather have these guys swinging on pitch #1, thats normally the best pitch youre going to see in an at bat, pitchers always want to start with a strike.

This is fortunate. the proposed deal essentially bought out mike lowell. and we would have added a total question mark with limited major league experience. i cant believe theo epstein felt this proposed package was equal value for lowell. i want lowell to take his time with his post surgery recovery. he can still be a productive member of the team. i just hope he hasnt lost all his self esteem.

Good riddance, I'm a big time Mikey fan still, he brought a lot to our team and can still help us. 

The trade that was proposed I felt was the absolutely epitome and staple of the mediocrity of the moves that the Red Sox seem to be stuck in.
Can't play with those guys across the street with the Joe Shmo's we're getting.
