Now here's my question. We know Mike Cameron is a 3-time gold glove winner as a CF, and has no experience playing left.  We know Jacoby has been downright awful in center (check his UZR if you don't believe me, I'm too lazy/preoccupied to find it), and has some experience playing left in Fenway. If Cameron is going to start, why not put the gold glover in center and hide the guy with the flimsy arm in the shallower left field?

I'm pretty sure that's the gameplan.

So is Jerry Cransick (the guy who wrote the article) making false assumptions then? He makes it sound like he has sources that indicate Cameron will play left and Ells will play center.

I've already read 5 or 6 articles that say Cameron will take over Center, while Jacoby moves to Left. The key phrase in that article is "It's believed", he doesn't actually say he has any official indication from Red Sox management that that's what's happening.

Common sense would say they wouldn't sign a gold glover just to play him out of position - opting to use a guy with bad defensive statistics over him.
