The knee, although unintentionally really does detract from the dunk. If not for the knee I call it a wash Pierce. Pierce beat his defender and went toe to toe with Bosh. The knee was unavoidable because Pierce jumped off his right foot meaning he was going for a left handed shot and switched to the right to avodi bosh and get the Dunk. Wade caught an unsuspecting defense in transition, Varejao got caught out of position, and recovered late. As for the contact Wade seemed more powerful because of how Varejao bounced off of him, due to the full head of steam he had getting their.

As I said in the game thread the other night when the two dunks were shown in split screen, simultaneously is how similar both dunks are and the contact made but how different the calls were made by the refs.

In Wade's dunk, AV got called for a blocking foul and Wade went out of his way to stop, turn around and step over Varejao menacingly without a taunting call. He got the basket and the free throw for the contact and no technical foul for the taunting.

In Pierce's dunk, Bosh didn't get called for the blocking foul even though the contact was obvious as was the Bosh's position within the circle. Pierce stopped, glared at Bosh some and left. He gets the taunting technical foul.

How can two plays that are almost exactly similar have to so different calls from the refs? It just goes to show that superstar calls do exist and that the officiating in the league is horrendous because of it.
The contact on the pierce dunk was different. It was Pierce's knee, and off to the side. That is not a blocking foul.

Contact was made on the defender while he was inside the semi-circle. Automatic foul.
