As far as I can see, Rudy Gay is Corey Maggette, Part II. I suppose the proposed trade is a win on talent, but I'd be looking to make other use of our expiring contracts.

I think Chris Paul could be had for the right price.  The Hornets are not doing well, they just fired their coach, and the patriarch of the family that owns the team is seriously ill.  Before making any deal with the expirings, I'd have to be convinced that I couldn't get Chris Paul.

With you, Brick. I think the day is coming. And the Cs have the ability to offer enormous salary relief to the Hornets along with Rondo. Very few teams have an offer better than the Cs for the guy if he asks out.

  • Rondo = Good
Really?  Remember Chris Wallace gave away Pau Gasol for a cup of coffee.

They at least got Marc Gasol as part of that trade, if I'm not mistaken.  You're saying Memphis would give up their currently best player for a couple of guys who are at best limited role players, one of whom is perpetually injured and the other who is woefully unathletic?

i think the lack of merit for this trade are probably clear and need not be rubbed in.

The Grizzlies have no incentive to do such a deal, but I don't think Gay is a good player anyway - not even close of being Memphis best player. Mediocre rebounder, shot-hog, forgettable outside shooter, too weak to defend 4s and probably to slow to defend the wing and not particularly efficient as a scorer.
