I can't see ray allen taking anything less than 12 million per season out of pride reasons and i don't know if the celtics are willing to sign him up for example to a 3 year 36 million dollar contract. He is 34 currently and will be 37 by then. I can live with two aging starters and one vet off the bench but that would leave ray allen out. Plus our payroll would explode if we payed every starter around 10 million (with perk surely getting a deal of 7 to 10 million per season soon)

Its too bad that guys like giddens and walker couldn't overachieve to mold into the starting lineup just in case. There are no 2010 free agents SG worthy to replace r allen (rip is off the list signing an extension with the pistons and joe johnson out of our price range).

Looking a little ahead but it will be interesting what will happen with ray allen after rondo was signed up

Ray definitely deserves a good sized contract, however he doesn't strike me as the type of person who wouldn't take a lesser one based on his pride. He has done nothing but be the selfless player out there when he could be the star on a lot of teams. I see him retiring before demanding a huge contract out of us or going to another team to get paid.

It might be a bit much, though, to put him in a system where he can't be utilized to his full potential, and then to say we're only going to pay him X because, well, look at the numbers.

I really hope so because on almost every other team in the league he could be a starter and score 25 points a game if he wanted to. No doubt he could get a 3 year 36 million dollar deal elsewhere.

Its really a mystery what will happen to him and the starting SG situation in the summer if he leaves. (he can't be too pleased currently watching rondo getting an extension and nothing happening for him)

Who can take his role? No One. Ray fits perfectly with the structure of this team. Ray sacrificed the most for the betterment of this team. It'll be a tragedy if Ray leaves. Three season isn't enough.

12 million a year for three years at his age? He is definetely an effective player, possibly still an all star level player for maybe one year. However, his game has definetely slipped over the last few years. The off shooting nights are happening with more consistenty. The offensive explosives are happening less frequently. He still looks swift and is playing solid defense, but if you can lock up a player like rondo for 11 million a year (imagine how good he will be the last few years of that contract), then how is Allen worth more over the next three years. I think he would be lucky to get much more then the mid level exception. Is he all that much better then Sheed the last few years?

I say Ray Stays, lol....

I don't know the exact financial particulars, but from what I have seen throughout Celticsblog he would like to stay, but with a reduced contract of course.

My question is whether the Rondo signing will affect Ray's next contract?

I really can't imagine Ray Allen anywhere else. I would like to see the Core (Pierce, Ray Allen and KG) ride off into the sunset in a few years in Boston, with Championships 18, 19 (and maybe 20?).

I see a player who takes less shots per game since coming to Boston. Team wins over individual stats.  This must be very hard for players today but we have great players who have decided to do this for the team.  Please do not disparage a player for truly being unselfish for Championship runs.
