I was at the game, and it was a blast. It stayed close for about a quarter, then the Celtics kicked it to another gear that the Bulls just don't have. The defense is ridiculous.
Paul Pierce had the place rocking in the third quarter. Ray looks to be breaking out of his slump. KG doesn't have the lift back yet, but otherwise looks healthy - his movements are quick and he's a beast on defense. Perk had an up-and-down game - good plays intermingled with some dumb fouls. Sheed was off.
I kept wondering why Rondo wasn't shooting the ball or attacking the rim, and then I started watching him. He just flat out destroyed the Bulls. He didn't shoot because he didn't need to - he had 16 assists tonight, and several other plays where the bucket came after an extra pass or two. He crashed the boards and played stifling defense. It's amazing how many passes he alters with his length.
I didn't realize how long Shelden is until I saw him in this game. I think he has a very real shot at earning playing time over BBD when he comes back - Davis is simply another gun, providing points and a big body but not all that much else. Shelden provides toughness on defense and a rebounding presence, along with an apparent ability to get opposing big men in foul trouble. We don't need more points with Sheed, House and Quisy out there. We do need somebody to clean up the boards and provide strong defense. I'm not necessarily saying that Landlord is a better player than Davis (although during warmups, his jumper looks as good as Baby's... just throwing that out there), but I do think he's a better fit for this team. I was just extremely impressed with what he brought tonight.
No worries about the minutes tonight. Paul played 31, and Ray and KG were both around 25. That should quiet some worries for the time being.
