Can we forget about both Shelden Williams and Michael Sweetney, and just pick up Stromile Swift off waivers?       Not sure what we can do with Sheldens conreact though.  but I think having Srtomile Swift as a 5th big would really be nice.

From what little I've seen of Shelden this preseason, I'd rather have him than Swift.

Swift may be one of the biggest draft pick busts of the past decade (#2 overall in 2002). The guy has coasted his way through the league since his rookie contract. I don't know how he managed to con Houston into giving him a 4-year deal those years ago.

I think ultimately it doesn't matter all that much.  I think there's a decent chance that when Bill Walker is healthy, Shelden isn't even on the active roster.  I don't see Stro Swift being any different.  Right now I see KG, Perk, Wallace, BBD, and Scal all above either on the depth chart.  And I don't see BBD getting more than 15 mpg and I don't think Scal is in the rotation.

Man, I would have liked to see that guy in his prime work with the Celtics current coaching staff. I know he was technically a bust, but he was serviceable for a number of years. His potential far outweighed how he has played, though...

Stromile Swift didn't have a prime. Once upon a time he could jump high but couldn't play basketball.  Now he can't jump quite so high, and still can't play basketball.

Yeah, I guess prime wasn't quite the right word, but from 2001-2005, he was a solid NBA player (around 10.5 pts, 5.5 rebs, and 1.5 blocks in only about 22 minutes/game). When he was splitting time with Lorenzen Wright in Memphis, he was productive. I think most people thought that when he got his 'chance' (post-Wright), he was going to get better, but he really only slowly declined.

I know it doesn't mean much, but I actually picked him up on my fantasy teams back in the day. You see this kind of athleticism from a guy and you think 'potential'. I know he was never awesome, but he wasn't horrible either...

In his prime, Stromile Swift was the big man version of Tony Allen.  A great athlete, with some intriguing skills that allow him to put up some nice numbers on a bad team, or show "flashes", but when it comes down to it, he was a terrible basketball player who did not understand how to play the game.  And now he is too washed up to even do that anymore.

Haha, I was thinking more Gerald Green. I guess that's why I said in my original comment that I would have liked to see him with good coaching when he actually was at his peak, athletically. Now, I guess I would rather just take my chances with Shelden.

He didn't look too bad, but he didn't look too good either.  His rebounding isn't all that bad, but I think he pretty bad on D.  He has no inside presence like Powe had, and can't play Center for any stretch.
He's pretty good for a sixth big man, but he's way worse than Rasheed and Davis, and I'd rather see Scal get PF minutes.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Of all the Hawks drafter blunders, I think sheldon williams may have been a worse pick then marvin williams all things considered

Sheldon was a bad pick, but let's not forget who Atlanta passed on when they drafted Marvin Williams!
