Quote from: ESPN NBA RUMORS
Bonzi Wells spent some time in China last season after he declined to sign for the minimum salary with an NBA team. He and Jermaine O'Neal have been working out in Chicago with trainer Tim Grover.

Both players have been lobbying on their twitter accounts for the Miami Heat to sign the swingman, but Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports the team currently has no interest in signing Wells.

Look, I know its not ideal, and its not new, but hear me out.

Bonzi wells last played a full season in the NBA in 2007/2008. He is currently 32 years old.

Last season, rather than sign a vet minimum contract, he opted to go play in China.

Now, he's lobbying to get signed in the league again. Maybe now is the time for him to come to Boston.

Bonzi is by no means an all-star. He's a little wacky. To put it kindly, he has an inflated sense of self worth. He's kind of one dimensional, but he can score, he can create and bully his way to his own shot, and from 2005/2006 to 2007/2008, he ranked consistently in the top 5 SG's (leading twice) for rebounds per 40.

What do we need? We need a guy who can do those things. We need a guy who can create his own shot, a guy who can grab those tough rebounds when Baby and Sheldon Williams are in the game, a strong, tough guy to bully the wings when Pierce or Ray aren't in the game to bring the smart D. We also need a guy who is on the cheap, a guy who will play greater than the um...sum of his contract.

Then there is the issue of Marquis. "Quisy" to his friends. Where's he gonna play? Jeff brought it up on the front page, but if Daniel's primary duty is to play backup 1 and backup 2, we still need a backup 3.

I'd probably rather have Ime Udoka, but Bonzi I could accept. He's fired up, he's too old and too desperate to be stupid on or off the court, and he obviously wants to play. I wouldn't mind if it was in Boston.

Bonzi Wells is a little too offensive minded for my taste ... for a second wing off the bench ... I'd rather see someone who plays within himself and doesn't force things.

I think Bonzi needs a larger role in order to be successful out there, plus I worry about how his game is doing after a year out of the NBA.

Bring him to camp without a contract.  Let him prove he is not only significantly better than Walker and Giddens, but good enough to be a legit rotation player on this team.  If he will just be a 12th man then its not worth it, but if he can be something close to what he was in his prime, then great.  But make him prove it in camp.

I would be OK if Bonzi came for the veteran minimum but it's unlikely since he wants to go to Miami where he could have a bigger role and could enjoy the nightlife.

Well, the C's don't need him, so if he is not willing to do that, then let him go elsewhere.

As far as I am concerned, he is every bit the risk that Darius Miles was last year, so he should have to go through the same steps of coming into camp without a guaranteed deal, and earn his spot.

Why is it that Wells seems like the type of guy that would fit in really well with the current group of players wearing a New York Knicks' uniform?

A fun thread would be "who should have been on the Knicks last year, but wasn't?"

The list obviously starts with Z-Bo and Steph..but some others?

Jermaine O'Neal? Ron Artest?

I don't really buy into the Daniels as backup PG experiment. I would rather sign a PG and use Marquis as backup for Allen and Pierce.

That said, Bonzi can play the game. It would be nice to have him in the team. If he is willing to play for the minimum...who knows??
