Here it is
http://msync.org/health/GeneralMotorsDiet.html

Its called the "Gm Diet", although GM has offically renouced any affiliation ever with it.

Basically it breaks down to this.

Day One

All fruits except bananas. Your first day will consists of all fruits you want. It is suggested you consume lots of watermelon and cantaloupe.

Day Two

All vegetables. You are encouraged to eat until you are stuffed with all the new and cooked vegetables of your choice. There is no limit on the account or type. Avoid oil and coconut while cooking vegetables. Have large boiled/baked potato for breakfast.

Day Three

Any mixture of fruits and vegetables of your choice. Any amount, any quantity. No bananas yet and no potatoes today.

Day Four

Bananas and milk. Today you will eat as many as eight bananas and drink three glasses of milk. You can also have one bowl of vegetables soup.

Day Five

Today is a feast day. You will eat 1 (one) cup of rice. You also have to eat 6 (six) whole tomatoes and drink 12 (twelve) glasses of water today to cleanse your system of the excess uric acid you will be producing.

Day Six

Today is another all vegetables day. You must eat 1 cup of rice today and eat all the vegetables you want cooked and uncooked to your heart's content.

Day Seven

Today your food intake will consist of 1 cup rice, fruit juice and all the vegetables you care to consume. Tomorrow morning you will be five to eight kilograms lighter than 1 week ago. If you desire further weight loss, repeat the program again. Repeat the program as often as you like, however, it is suggested that you rest for three days before every repetition.

So I did one week on it. I lost 11 pounds. I took a week off (it is hard), and now I'm doing it again.

I don't know however how much more raw celery, carrots, or canatlope I can eat. And the Wonder Soup? I wonder if I'm going to vomit the next time I eat it.

I also need to drink 2 glasses of wine per night after the first week for digestion.

I need help with recipes, and types of nutritionally viable but tasty wine, ideas?

On this diet you lost 11 pounds. 7 pounds of muscle and 4 pounds of fat.

Sorry Jsaad, but doing this diet for one week would NOT result in a loss of 7 lbs of muscle. Sure if he did it again and again for months he would be losing some muscle, however the majority of the weight loss is obviously water loss.

Anyone who does this diet will lose anywhere between 50%-75% of there weight in muscle.

Honestly, that sounds like a radical diet, and I don't understand it. Eight bananas in one day? six tomatoes in one day? If this is designed as some "cleansing" or "detox" regimen, it is most likely some scam a pseudo-doctor slapped together.

But, generally speaking, the diet does sound way, way more healthier than what the average American eats. But, without a doubt, the diet is strange and could be a lot better (healthier and more nutritious).

Well, I suppose. but what is good shape? If you're looking to add muscle and strength, a healthy diet is more than half the battle.

Wouldn't this % depend on how long they stick with it and what kind of exercise they're doing etc...?
Yup

Yes...there were two fundamental ways to lose muscle mass. 1) Lack of use and 2) our bodies metabolize the muscle for energy.

If we have a surplus of fat energy, and work out we should be losing fat, not muscle.

Very little protein = lots of muscle loss. Most of these diets are similar in that they manipulate water levels and calorie count to have you losing a lot of weight on the scale, but also a lot of the kind of weight you (a) don't want to lose, or (b) gain right back (the water).

Yeah, I know. This whole draft thing has got my debate spirit up, and this is the type of stuff I studied in college, so its nice to use it.

I don't know about Jsaad's actual #s, but your diet sounds like it's very low-calorie, especially relative to whatever your body's used to getting.  If that's the case your body will burn both fat and muscle to get the energy it needs.  Working out will help it preserve some muscle, but the body is very reluctant to go after fat reserves if there's anything else to burn.  I always use the checking/savings account metaphor: when the body needs cash (energy) it prefers to spend mostly from the checking account (muscle) and dip into savings (fat) as little as possible, because fat uses much less energy than muscle, and the "savings account" is reserved for when things get REALLY desperate.

As long as you're doing this as a quick fix and adjusting your long-term diet to increase lean protein and reduce carbs and fat, you should be fine though.

I call BS in week one. No way on earth a person can lose 7 lbs of muscle in one week just by eating a bunch of vegetables. Not humanly possible. Once again I agree with your option being the better one, but you don't have to exaggerate in order to make your point.

So if I just went 45 mins on the rowing/elliptical machines and burned 1000 calories total...does that mean it was mostly muscle?

Does it matter what you're doing whether or not you burn muscle?

Did I only burn muscle for the first 10 mins, then when my HR peaked then levelled off and dropped, did i burn muscle then? Was it mostly muscle or mostly fat? Was any of it fat? Did I burn muscle but also build muscle so call it a wash minus the fat I lost?

These things are the questions I wonder as I gross out the middle aged women at the treadmill next to me. I even farted once, just cuz she was snooty.

It depends when you did it - the best time for cardio is in the morning before you've eaten anything.  Less glycogen in your muscles means a greater % of fat burned.

And farting at unpleasant people at the gym is a God-given right.  It's gotta be happening anyway with that diet.
