Can they wait til after the game to add him to the roster?

Yeah they can but im not sure they want to waste another Buchholz option now while they need him because barring a trade they will need to use one on him whenever Wakefield gets back.

I would guess its Kotsay but Bard wouldnt reallty suprise me, even though the pen has struggled lately and id liek to see Bard stay up the Sox FO may think they can survive two weeks or so without him.

I thought that.  Perhaps there's another trade coming right on the heels of this one which will open up a spot.

I'm personally always weary of NL players with bad averages (.247 ain't very good) coming over the the AL.  Pitching is harder here and it worries me some.  That being said, the Sox needed to do something and they didn't give up much to get him.  It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

It's certainly a valid point, but maybe playing in a lineup with actual Major league players will help him see better pitches then playing with some 12 years olds and has beens.

Haha.  You could be right.

from Boston.com:

In adding LaRoche, the Red Sox will have to alter their major league roster, meaning a Red Sox position player will likely be optioned or placed on the disabled list whenever LaRoche arrives. This is purely speculative, but Mark Kotsay has been battling a calf injury, and while it improved over the All-Star break, the Sox could give him more rest without sacrificing any infield versatility by putting him on the DL.

Kotsay designated for assignment.

I called it.

it is being reported that we gave up argenis diaz and hunter strickland for him.

http://soxprospects.com/players/diaz-argenis.htm

29th and 38th ranked prospects in our system

beat me too it.

If this is the case, I am pleased with the move.  Not sure Mark Kotsay is though.
