Can the Media please stop calling this guy so good and a future NBA SuperStar.  He was the best player in the worst draft in years.  I do think he will be a good NBA player but his ceiling is Elton Brand or Carlos Boozer.  He will never lead a team to an NBA championship and is a better fit as a teams 2nd option.

We are all lucky he did not end up on the Knicks or they would be calling him Wilt Chamberlan and starting to build his wing in Springfield.

It's called hype, the fuel that runs the NBA Marketing Machine.

I'd prefer to hear about Blake Griffin than have Nike, Vitamin Water, ABC Sports, and Bob's Discount Furniture continue to ram Kobe and Lebron down our throats!

I do agree with you on the NBA hype and marketing but they have been calling Blake the possible best #1 pick ever and a cross between Barkley and Duncan.

It is really unfortunate that two of ESPN's NBA writers are so terrible (Adande and Thorpe) every time I click on one of their articles by accident it ruins my day.

Who called him the best number 1 pick ever?

Every year - number 1 picks are compared to other number 1 picks - or similar players. He's the #1 pick - he gets the attention.

That is not what I read. The article I read was saying that if he can get the Clippers to the level of yearly playoff team, then he can be considered one of the best number ones in light of how bad the Clippers have been. It is a qualified endorsement.

I don't get why anyone gets upset with articles like this. These things bother you?

It might be partially affected by my hatred for Adande.

I don't think that's a tough task for Griffin, if they handed the keys to Davis, and everyone could stay healthy, I think that's a decent team. Probably in the 5-8 range.

Griffin would have been the #1 pick in last years draft as well ahead of Rose and Beasley.  He probably goes third in the Oden/Durant draft.  He goes #1 in the Bargnani draft.  #1 in the Bogut draft (though may not have the ceiling of Paul or Williams who went after Bogut).  Now prior to Bogut he wouldn't have been the #1 pick for a few years (Howard, LBJ, Ming), but certainly goes #1 in the Brown and Martin drafts of the early 2000's.

Just because the draft was weak doesn't mean the player is weak.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Bigs - Shaquille O'Neal
Wings -  Lebron James

The thing I like about Blake is that he's a future NBA superstar.  He's like a cross between Barkley and Duncan.

Ooops. ;)

I'm not buying the hype, he still has to convince me on the court.

Greg Oden was supposed to be incredible and hasn't lived up to it yet (I'm aware of his injury, but still).  :-[

To me, he is refreshing.  I love to hear of a #1 pick working hard and doing the little things on the court to make him and his team better.  You never hear anything negative about this kid.   The only negative things about him are poor free throw shooting and the fact that he plays for the Clippers.  I don't feel like they are giving him any more love than any other #1 picks.

  • Rondo = Good
I think he's going to very good - a franchise player for sure - as long as his body holds up.  Of course, the Clippers have a history of very bad luck when it comes to the health of their star players.

I don't think he's going to be phenomenal though.  He's not Tim Duncan and Charles Barkley rolled into one.  That's ridiculous.  A safe bet is that he becomes another of the dominant 20-10 big men in the league and is one of the top 10 players for a while.
Never forget the Champs of '08, or the gutsy warriors of '10.
