Whoa, you guys are waaaaaaaaaaay off.

Odom is a joke.  The Lakers don't need him.

In fact -- and Mitch Kupchak, I hope you're paying attention -- I got an inside tip that Zach Randolph is about to blow up!  I did a little after-hours trade machine work to see how the Lakers could get their hands on him (that one's free of charge, Mitch), and it's simple:

Gasol for Randolph, straight up.

You pull off that trade, Mitch, and let Odom walk off into the sunset... another parade in Laker town next year.  Guaranteed.

Trust me!

Brilliant.  I've got an inside tip too that Kobe would "...love..." to "...play with him."

(Okay, okay, so I was paraphrasing a little.  The whole quote was.  "I love LA, but I would leave if they traded for Randolph.  I don't want to play with him.")

They can just trade Morrison and a bag of balls to Memphis for Rudy Gay or something.

Forget Morrison, Memphis might be willing to do that deal just for the bag of balls.  I've heard they've got great upside potential.  Chris Wallace loves upside potential.

Make it 2 bags and Wallace will give them oj Mayo too.

My mind tells me not to even entertain the notion that the Lakers will lose Odom.
But, I can't deny the little jump my heart makes each time I remotely consider the possibility.  I am clearly setting myself up for disappointment if I allow even a glimmer of hope.

But, since I am Neurotic Guy, and since it is therefore my nature to be unable to ward off thoughts, can someone please provide me with some clear rationale for why Kupchek could/would allow Lamar to go elsewhere.  Another angle would be to provide me with rationale for why Odom would choose to go elsewhere (given the 3 year 27 mil offer previously on the table from LA with only an MLE offer available outside of the Lakers).
On the other hand, you could choose to explain what you think Kupchek's 'game' is for pulling the Lakers offer  -- give me your human behavioral understanding of how this is going to eventually work (or not) to bring closure to a deal betweem Odom and the Lakers.

Look -- I guess I just can't get the possibility out of my mind so I need you all to give either the reasons the Lakers will eventually sign him -- or explain the viability of them losing him.  Please don't just say 'they can't lose him because he's too valuable' -- if you go down this road, please also indicate how 'pulling the offer' gets them closer to the signing.

BTW, if they do get him back, the Lakers are then in similar positin to the C's with regard to filling out the roster.  They could use some bech support though they won't require it to contend -- but I would guess they'll shore it up somehow.  [dang] Lakers.

Lakers would probably give Walton a bigger role (which makes me laugh) and look for either their backup PF to grow (i forgot his name. The one with the cornrows), and sign another backup like Joe Smith.

I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

My thoughts from the left coast........

Truthfully I don't think any of us as Laker fans have any real idea what's going on with the Odom/Laker management situation. The Lakers claim to have made offers and haven't had calls returned from Lamar's rep and there hasn't been much coming out of Odom's side except for a quick interview he did locally where he made it seem like money was the issue but something would probably get done. Short of some sort of S&T with a team like NY (Lee for Odom, although I don't even know if that's possible or not with the Knicks clearing space for LeBron), if we somehow lose Odom and get nothing back, we're done. Simple as that. We won't have enough to get out of the West.

I think the issue with being short when it comes to contract negotiations is more a management philosophy than anything "personal". The Lakers were willing to offer Trevor the MLE for 3 years (a good deal as far as I was concerned) but as soon as it became obvious that he and his agent wanted to play the usual "high offer/low offer" negotiation game and were looking at offers from other squads, the team was more than willing to move on to a player (Ron-Ron) who was willing to accept their offer and really "wanted" to be here. Even though he's older and has less upside, the idea of a player wanting to be here and not wanting to drag out negotiations definitely helped the choice. I think in a way the same thing is now going on with Lamar and I expect the team is trying to find other options but in this case their new managemnt contract negotiation "philosophy" may completely backfire and cost us another title.

My bet is that the Lakers would go after the same cast of characters we would with the LLE.
