Now this all hinges ofcourse on Bruce Bowen getting bought out, which because his contract is partially guaranteed fairly likely.
Heres my thought process, as much as i despise tony allen and scalibrines contract, i think it would be most wise to hold onto them for the trading deadline.
So I was thinking, couldn't Bruce Bowen play the same role sam cassel did for our team last year. Hold on to him if you need him for the playoffs, be a role model for Walker and/or giddens, and lets the kids play.
If the kids do well, we hold on to bruce, save him for the playoffs, and then you'll have a very deep bench behind pierce and ray ray. If the kids don't pan out, we use our trading chips to get a legitimate back for paul, at the wing.
Now I know this sounds like the same failed plan for the bench that we had for last years bench, but both walker and giddens would have another year to adapt to the nba, and we would still have tony allen and scali to play at the 3.
This plan would however, hinge on doc actually playing the kids, he would need to give them legitimate minutes when they matter. And it would require some real patience from us fans.
But it would also leave us the LLE to spend on a solid back up point guard, or else where.
(Also I write this because i think theres is absolutely no chance we get matt barnes, theres a reason danny hasn't shown interest and its because he refuses to play in a cold city unless we had the MLE to overspend on him. Also obviously if theres a sign and trade option out there that doesn't involve baby I say pull the trigger on that. But those are incredibly difficult, and I just don't see what we have to offer outside of baby.)
I just don't think it would be the end of the world to go into the season with this plan IF and only if doc is willing to give the kids backup minutes, and give pierce and ray rest.
